16x8 +0 should be able to fit without much issue. Would be even easier if the car is lowered on coilovers. |

http://www.watanabe.com.au/page3.html the r-types 16x8 +0 with meaty tires would be nice for auto-x, can you get your hands on a set? the look hopefully would something to be in this effect http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/images/.../ogi-180-3.jpg |

And slightly smaller diameter. Big watanabes just don't look right IMO |

I think I figured out why people aren't liking these wheels as shown: offsets too tame and no lip |

We have fit 18x9.5 +28 without any issues in the rear with 245/35/18 We have also fit 18x9.5 +28 with 225/40/18 up front. with still about 3-5mm clearance from the fender. Camber was only at approximately 1.75 degrees. 16x8 +0 wheels would sit approximately 5-7mm further out then the 18x9.5 +28, but with the given clearance between the tire and fender, it should clear with slight tweak of camber. The rears with the 16x8 +0 should be easy. Now if he wanted to run 255's or something on the 16x8 - would run into fender clearance issues up front for sure. |

I would love these in a negative offset please.

These wheels only looked good with negative offsets and 15-16". http://www.speedhunters.com/wp-conte..._4054_copy.jpg |
All these pics of narrow width and/or high offset watanabes on the 86 are frustrating. These are one of the most perfect wheels to go with the gt86. These desperately need to be at least 17x9 with at least a et35 or et30 offset (or, a much lower offset for a narrower 7-8" width - like et0-et20).
Does anyone have pics and/or know if a 17x9 watanabe in an et30 or et35 offset would have a noticeably bigger lip and look much nicer (compared to all these pics of unattractive high-offset 7-8" et40-et50 wheels)? 17X9 et30-35 isn't that crazy (it's not like a et0 or negative offset); so it's relatively still a little mild/conservative and very realistic. I'm wondering why no one has at least mounted a 9" et30-35 yet?! ...17x9 et30-et35 would be puuuurfect :D btw: Rota makes(has molds and is listed in their website) RKR replicas in 17x8 and 17x8.5 with 5x100 in nice low offsets of et0, et5, et10 and even available in the negatives. I can see an 8"+5 or 8.5"+10 easily fitting the 86 without any major problems nor modifications (except coilovers). These would be a fantastic alternative to real(and expensive) Watanabes and would weigh similar to the Watanabe non-magnesium versions anyways (not to mention you make a fuss and cry if you damage one at the track). http://www.rotawheels.com/wheel.php?id=100 Wheeldude says he only needs 3-4 confirmed preorders, for Rota to fire up the kiln and press some new wheels for a special order ;) |

how much per wheel will that rota cost? |
To get the look everyone is wanting, you need to look at the r-type design. The ones being installed are f8 or f8f design.
I've looked into this. To get that retro look, with lip, there's a narrow window that works. A 15x7 zero offset, or 15x8 +10 offset. Or you could get 16's, but if it were me, I'd go 15's. This will poke the same as a 18x9.5 +30, which many people have fitted. You're not getting 17" r types, it would look stupid. If you want the retro wheel look, you have to commit to the retro sizing. Those 17" sizing are all going to have the same f8 or f8f face, no matter what the offset. They just leave more material on the inside of the centre of the wheel. |
Guys ...just start a groupbuy for the low-offset RKRs with Wheeldude and call it a day.
As far as needing 15s or 16s for that retro look, I have to disagree.. the new 86 has huge diameter wheel wells and big protruding fenders.. and 17s are fine/perfect for it (not too big, not too small..and most importantly, the same diameter as oem). 15s and 14s look good/perfect on retro cars, mainly because those retro cars came with 14s and 15s oem/stock; so keep it stock size and it'll look fine. Many old school wheels are coming out in 17s for the 86/brz, because anything smaller would just look silly and out of place on the car - ie: Hayashi 17s, etc. |
But they're.... Rotas.

But I can't lie.... knockoff Watanabe Rota RKR's in pure flat Black would look pretty darn ill in a 17x8.5" et10 or 17x8" et0 or et5 (and these aren't even in the negative offsets yet; but have a totally sufficient deep-dish & big-lip look ;)) http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=60 |

The Essex Sprint Kit fits in these wheels?
|
Well, I figure there aren't enough people with these posting on here to make it worthwhile to start another thread for different sizing.
So here are some shots of my 17x8 +35 F8s on the car from the test fit this weekend. Stock suspension with OEM crash bolts (maybe -1°). Tires are 225/45 ZII Star Specs. (Sorry for the crappy phone camera) https://scontent.ford1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...86711022_o.jpg https://scontent.ford1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...81769296_o.jpg https://scontent.ford1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...a0&oe=57661EF4 https://scontent.ford1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...43&oe=576E1F1E Based on other pictures of the 17x8 +35s on stock suspension, I was expecting more poke. I guess that -1° of camber really makes a difference visually. Unfortunately winter isn't over in Chicago, so I had to swap my winter setup back on today. But they look awesome in person, I couldn't stop looking for the day or so that they were on the car. haha Should look even better when they go back on, along with SACHS Performance coilovers, RCE camber plates, and Whiteline LCAs. |
May I ask where you found them?
|

They do have a U.S. rep/distributor though. Shoot Watanabe's contact email a message saying what you're looking for and they'll put you in contact with them. |
Shark Bait88: what was their weight?
|
I stupidly forgot to weigh them before getting the tires on, but according to their site the 17x8s are 8.7Kg (~19lbs). So not really lightweight, but still wider and lighter than stock.
