Auto's ruin the experience at least for me. The S never came as an automatic and it sold really well for the first few years. If they're really wanting to revive the sports car then revive the true sports car. Autos are for bitches. Sorry.

:word:

This pretty much sums up how I feel too.

Driving in traffic sucks and anyone who doesn't enjoy spirited driving will want an auto for their commute.
.

Lets hope that this doesnt mean AUS and NZ dont even get the toyota ft-86:

everyone's entitled to their opinion, but some opinions are lame. that's my opinion. :)

OldSkoolToys 10-27-2009 01:39 AM

The sad part is that it takes only a few days of casual driving to learn how to use a standard transmission. If you don't know how to drive one, I'd just call you lazy.

Hell, such a skill might even save your life someday! What if you have to get away from some mass murderer and the only get-away option is a car with a standard transmission that is, for some ungodly known reason, outfitted with a on/off race clutch?

Things to think about!

Fine, I will retract my statement about autos being for bitches, because if I had the opportunity and the funds to buy one, I would most definitely be driving a GTR right now. That statement was a little crass and I apologize for saying it.

Hell, my DD would probably be an auto as well because like a few have said, shifting gears all day in your DD gets old sometimes. That might be why I'm kinda tired of my S.

Mr. Tada, Chief engineer of the project team told they also develop automatic version exactly.
They are considering which automatic transmission is better, 5AT or CVT.

Arcangel 10-28-2009 10:22 AM

I could care less if it has an automatic, I dont drive them if it only came with an auto I wouldnt even entertain this vehicle, being as it comes with a 6 speed manual I'm in!

zbirdman777 10-28-2009 12:11 PM

I hope it doesn't come in auto because when a sorority girl pulls up next to you in the same car holding a chihuahua and applying her mary kay makeup it puts a world of hurt on ur mojo. I think a manual would keep their hands full. lol

Totally with you there. I could think of something else to keep there hands full lol

Bochet 10-28-2009 01:15 PM

An automatic will allow Toyota to sell more of these cars. Anything that results in more sales is a good thing.

Porsche makes SUVs and Sedans. BMW makes ///M X5s now. Aston has penned a sedan.

Companies do what they need to be profitable. As long as it results in additiona profit and R&D $$s, it's no problem.

I wouldn't but it with an AT, but I know there are people who won't be it without one.

zbirdman777 10-28-2009 02:07 PM

Ur definitely right. In the real world I know there will be an AT but in my fantasy world AT sports cars don't exist. Maybe they should pull a Mazda and make the AT version slower like the RX-8. Put a Yaris engine in 'em. That'll teach them a lesson. Then we can stare down from our pedestal and snicker.

In all seriousness, if giving it an AT means the continuous production of this car I'm happy.

Bochet 10-28-2009 03:21 PM

I was actually going to say, "Even the RX8 has an auto, and it required a severely decreased redline on the engine and lower power"

It'll have an auto as an option and that's a good thing. I hope they sell like hot cakes.

Hmmm, I've never had this problem.

Wonder why?

Hm... it doesn't even hurt my mojo. If I see a FT-86 pull up next to me and chick driving it, hey~ I'll give her a thumbs up for having nice taste in car! :party0030:

If a chick pulled up next to me driving an AE86 similarly done to mine, I'd ask her to skip the whole dating thing and just marry me.

But there's a distinct difference between having tastes for an AE86 and tastes for a brand new sporty little compact that daddy bought her.

Doesn't put a hurt on my mojo. Maybe there's something wrong with your mojo. You should take it to your mojo dealer and have them put it on the diagnostic. Maybe it needs a new ECU or something.

Getting back on topic, yes, it will come with an auto. I want an FT-86 that's as light and fun to drive as possible, so I'll get mine with a manual. But I'm sure as hell not going to begrudge someone their auto if that's what they want. What other people want or need out of a car isn't the same as what I want or need, which is why options are a great thing.

Hmm. Interesting -- what's the source for this info?

I was thinking they'd go with the Aisin 6 AT -- never even thought of a CVT.

Same here, I think everyone assumes that they'll go with Aisin trannies because of their relationship.

BTW, does Aisin have any dual clutch transmissions anyone know? Who makes the one in the IS-F?

scape 11-01-2009 11:04 AM

i'd imagine a 5AT would be on this car, at the very least.

The ISF doesnt have a dual clutch, Toyoda said using one made it not feel like its not shifting or something, so they went the route thet ferarri went with their f1 gearboxes and makes it shift within i think its 200 milliseconds.

Im thinking it will at least have a 5at. CVT just plain suck. Either way, an auto will be gearded toward gas milage.

NESW20 11-01-2009 04:28 PM

the ISF has an 8 speed auto.
