Dealer didn't put it on, I intended to but realized it wasn't worth the effort.

2 years, 33k miles no mention of it and I've gotten a speeding ticket in that time, cop definitely saw the lack of plate.

babydriver 12-07-2014 05:29 PM

Texas unfortunately requires front plates, so yes, I used the OEM plate holder.

Well, make sure never to drive near Ardenwood/Fremont area then. Cause that's where they gave me a $86 ticket for no plate.
Cop must've been f**king around with me. I mean, $86??

They KNEW what the car was and they probably laughed around with their cop buddies afterwards. Pigs.

Ah, come on, at least they had a sense of humor. Pretty creative too, although I can understand why you were upset with them. :)

wrb.brz 12-08-2014 02:30 AM

I couldn't bring myself to deface the front of this car with a license plate . I just plan to continue without until I get cited for it, then maybe I'll comply. But it's nice to know there are creative ways to mount it if the time ever comes.

HunterGreene 12-08-2014 09:36 AM

Pretty sure no front plate is a primary offense in Ohio, or at least in some of the cities here (was pulled over in previous car only because of it).

rlpaul 12-08-2014 10:46 AM

Not sure if it's a primary offense. I've heard a few stories of people getting pulled over several times a year, and also heard of people running without one for years with no issue. My GF's Jetta is sans front plate, and hasn't had an issue. I put mine on via GS relocation because I don't want the hassle.

bcj 12-08-2014 04:35 PM

Ran over a tire carcase on the freeway at night.
Got a new front fascia and made sure that they didn't drill 1 inch holes in it for the center mounting clips the way that it came from the dealer.

Got a Perrin front tow point plate mount. I rather like the asymmetry.
(no OCD thanks muchly)

I'm actually more OCD about it being level than the fact that its off-center.

Got out the level when I torqued it down. Spot on.

Eski 12-09-2014 12:33 PM

glad to see the general consensus is f*ck the police.

srizzors25 12-09-2014 01:29 PM

I do not have mine mounted. Ended up getting a ticket in Denver when I was parked for no front plate right after I bought the car which was very frustrating. So I don't know if this will fly but I carry my front plate in my trunk I'll throw it in the window if I park in the city again.

Boulder police don't seem to care much I haven't had any problems so far. Got pulled over once for speeding (let off, driving a drunk friend home) and he didn't say anything. I think its because the cop and I both have beards

Really don't want to mount it but might buy one of the aftermarket kits as I might be moving back to California soon and cops their suck.

Actually, based on the poll, its more towards the "Obey the dumb law" side.

tahdizzle 12-09-2014 01:38 PM

Personally, I like the way my car looks with my front plate on the Perrin mount. And for whatever reason I decide to remove my plate, I won't have holes in my bumper.

Eski 12-09-2014 01:48 PM

lol the poll vs peoples forum replys are different xP

Stang70Fastback 12-09-2014 01:58 PM

What annoys me is that the front plate is a requirement only from a revenue standpoint. They can catch more people running red lights and blowing toll booths and whatnot with a front plate in case they can't read the rear plate.
So then why not offer a $25/year "no-front-plate" option fee? That way they make money, and we can be happy? I'm willing to bet the people letting their registration expire, and doing stupid stuff on the roads are mostly people who are lazy and don't really care about their cars that much, which means they probably are a small percentage of the demographic that would opt for no front plate. So if anything you're making money off the group of people who otherwise wouldn't gain you anything! It's a win-win for everyone!

+1 to this idea

tahdizzle 12-09-2014 04:52 PM

If you are referring to the traffic light cameras, those are fading away pretty fast.

But hey, if they want to pay $25 for the ability to operate a vehicle w/o a front plate I say let them eat cake.

Stang70Fastback 12-09-2014 05:08 PM

Not just traffic light cameras. Cameras for toll booths, or even plate readers on cop cars. They want plates on both ends of the vehicle so they can catch as many folks as possible. I'm just saying maybe if they made it an optional fee to allow only one plate they could break even or maybe even profit. Sure it's not THAT simple, but it's a starting point.

subyfly 12-09-2014 05:14 PM

Progress thinking :-)

Eski 12-09-2014 07:15 PM

idk about the rest of the country but here in california as of two or three years ago stop light/traffic cams no longer can give tickets +1

Poodles 12-13-2014 01:42 AM

Yes I do because the ticket here in Texas is a bit hefty now, but there was no fing way I was drilling holes into my bumper.

Raceseng mount (thought I had a head on pic but can't find it, no it's not crooked at all)

Yes, grimmspeed relocated BC cops around me love writing tickets for anything they possibly can. Wish I could go front plateless.

I have that one too, but I can't seem to get it to stay horizontal.

Just gotta tighten the crap out of the nut that sets the angle of the plate. It'll hold! ;)

Lurkasaurus Rex 01-18-2015 12:54 PM

Front plate is required in CT, but I'm moving to SC soon and trying to set the car up for then. Dealer asked me if I wanted a plate mount and I declined. I bought the Perrin mount and love it, I don't at all mind the look and it'll be so easy to go back to no plate when I get out of this state.
That E85 access is calling my name!

Awesome, I have the same mount and love it...it was the option to add a tow hook/GoPro mount that made me decide on the Raceng mount. Maybe tomorro I could snap a quick picture.
