Tomorrow, the guy at work will say "my penis is bigger than yours", so are you guys gonna whip your thing out and see which is bigger.....There's always gonna be these kinds of people that think they are better. Don't give in.

First I have to find a event near me, I'll start looking tomorrow. Have you ever auto x ? |
Man, I hope you get new tires first. The stock tires are going to be crap for auto-x. Sometimes, you just have to accept that a LOT of cars will outperform out FR-S. They are designed for fun and not to win. You will need to get new tires and a lot of practice to beat this guy. The turbo car will be easier to keep in the power band compared to the sh*tty FA20.
something to ponder about* you can loose control of your car and cause some serious damage if you are unlucky. I hope you can afford to fix/replace your FR-S if (knocked on wood) something happened. Insurance will not have your back. |
People should consider price when comparing cars. In 2003, an Audi TT Quatro turbo was a $40,000 car and that is in 2003 dollars. Your co-worker may have bought it used for a lot less, but then he is getting a used car. I suggest taking a pass on racing and point out to your co-worker that you bought a very fun car at a very good price.

If you like high speed, enter an HDPE. I have done that - wow! The twin is pure sex on a twisty track. Never mind going fast, learn how to turn.:party0030: |

I've seen this happen quite a few times over dozens of different cars, honestly not worth the bet. If someone wants to trash talk your car, sure no problem. If you really can't handle the guy provoking you like that, just tell him, "You know what, your car probably IS faster. I'm down to race our times at an Auto-X event, but I'm not really up for the $500 bucks. I'll probably lose, and I don't feel like losing the money!" Laugh it off.
If he accepts, that's great! You guys get to have fun at an Auto-X. If you lose, you're not out any money. If you win, he'll probably shut up about your car and start consider getting one himself! :bellyroll: Basically, as others have said, this is a car to have fun in. Sure you could make it competitive but not without some mods first. More likely than not 29 years of experience (even if it's backroad driving) could make a real difference. I don't know how long you've been driving or what sort of skill you have, but in those 29 years he could have been perfecting heel-toe shifting, learning how to control his throttle input mid turn, figuring out how to save himself from mistakes, etc etc. Plus, depending on how long he's had his Audi, he could know his car much better than you do, and that could make a HUGE difference when it comes to performance driving. I've witness my friend smoke an Evo VIII at an Auto-X with a '98 Camry purely because he was more experienced(To be fair, it's a pretty awesome Camry). Take the challenge, but don't bet any money unless you're really prepared to drop $500 bucks over a couple seconds. |

Lol, because used sti's aren't in the mid 20 grand range either... Easily available to "stupid kids". 90% of the sti's I see on the road that have an exhaust or more are more moronic than any twin owner I've ever encountered.

I'm all for some good honest fun, but let's not get carried away with your defense. Yes it's your property, but do consider that there's a time and place for 'having fun with your property'. That place isn't public streets. |

I think you read it wrong, he's saying he doesn't do that |

Let us know who won. Buy a dashcam to record the race.
|
OP ... Save your hard-earned money and ignore your co worker. Most likely he's just jealous of your FR-S.
|
Take the $500 you would have put up for this bet and spend it on a few track days/HPDEs. Much safer than street racing and you'll have a hell of a lot more fun.

I second getting a video of dashcam. i want to see this

OK, I take back my first thoughts since you now plan on the autocross course.
Go rent or borrow a car that both of you drive because it wont have anything to do with the car. Autocross is all about the driver. I know people that can beat the FRS in a Prius because they know what they are doing on course. Better yet, go work on your self esteem cause the whole thing reeks of grade 9. |
They aren't even men they're an immature 18 yo and an immatures 40+ man living a crisis coaxing kids into racing him

Just whip out your ****s and compare size. Then forget about racing cars if you don't have experience because there are many variables beyond which car is more capable.

Not to suggest that I condone any form of racing on public roads (because I don't), but the OP was asking how the cars compare. According to www.zeroto60times.com a 2013 FRS has a full 1 second advantage in both 0-60 and 1/4 mile times over a 2003 TT Quattro. It also pulls higher g's in skid pad tests. All other things being equal your twin should be the winner.
As others have already said, driver's skill can make up for what a car lacks in performance. If this is really just for fun than make it just for fun and drop the $500 bet. Get yourselves to an auto-x or HPDE. Put the money into a car payment. |
