Yojimbo sushi (Alameda): my go-to local spot. Good Korean style spicy miso pork ramen

Ramen shop (Oakland): "fancy" ramen, yummy but kind of on the expensive side. Gets really busy, come early to avoid the long wait.

Sobo ramen (Oakland): crazy number of different broths (tonkatsu, shoyu, etc.) but I love the tonkatsu with a little mayu (black garlic oil).

Speaking of Ramen ! Here is a picture of my recent Orenchi trip !

Finally got one of the 15 servings of Tsukemen (dipping noodles) !

Yojimbo also has great bento boxes! For joog you get a BBQ chicken bento omg! It's humongous for like $9! If your around or passing alameda and craving some teriyaki chicken and some miso dressing salad and soup come to yojimbo! Ahhhh I want some now lmao they close at 9:30.... Tempting to go right now Attachment 89349

Kaiju Eats Ramen and Izakaya !
3409 Geary Blvd
San Francisco, CA 94118

I do not think the ramen is worth how much I paid for (comparing to other places I like better for a cheaper price) but I will DEFINITELY come again for those delicious sweet potato fries with the curry aioli ! Panko deep-fried egg is good too !

Lol, 80% of this thread is southbay (well at least it seems like lots of SJ places)

Went to Teo Chow Noodle Shack on Cushing in Fremont for dinner tonight. It was surprisingly yummy. Simple, clean but full flavor and lots of meat, veggies and noodles. Has potential for a meet these upcoming cold months.

Ooooo I heard about that place before !

Since you mentioned it I will definitely put it up the priority places to eat list :D !

Btw what did you get there ? Duck and wonton soup sounds heavenly right now !

I got the egg noodle / wonton option and added bbq pork, thin sliced pork, shrimp and some green fibrous things that @RC51ed would like no mention of! hehe It was a big serving that would be equivalent to a large size at typical ramen places. Dammit! I just realized I forgot to bring the leftovers for lunch!

The people are nice and accommodating. One lady even asked to have the channel changed to Dancing with the Stars  Good amount of tables in a casual space.

I was looking at Yelp pics as I was eating and saw the sliced up duck. That will be my order for next time!

As far as meet potential, it's in a small plaza that would normally be busy for lunch. It seems a bit quieter during dinner and would allow for good parking. There's also McD's next door to overflow into.

Rachey's FR-S 11-25-2014 11:32 PM

I guess I'm plumping up even more for the holidays! Now at Harry's Hofbrau and feeling gluttonous. Another good meet spot for the hangry.

unsurety 11-26-2014 12:23 AM

Thinking about checking out Nomikai. Anyone try that out before?

They also have a bunch of great craft brews, bottled and on tap.

Speaking of which, I really like to go to Original Gravity in DTSJ. The food is decent, but they always have some tasty beers. I've heard great things about 55 South too, at least for cocktails.

OMG. That egg in the Ramen. There's a place in Hawaii just outside of Waikiki that has a panko egg over a pork bowl. The place is called Your Kitchen. It was the most magical thing I've eaten in a while.

I go nuts for chirashi so far haven't been impressed by the ones in SF when you consider price/quality/quantity. Yumyum I'll make a mental notes to try.

Have you ate at Tomodachi in Hayward or Sushi House in Alameda. Tomodachi is the better of the two, sushi house is a slightly less flavorfull on the rice but makes up for it in shear qty. Both are reasonably priced around 15-18.

Hey peeps just a quick heads up for people not-in-the-know in that area !

I recent picked up some food at one of my favorite spots in SF which I personally think is the best place to buy "sushi to-go"

Yum Yum Fish
2181 Irving St
San Francisco, CA 94122
b/t 22nd Ave & 23rd Ave in Outer Sunset

I have been buying sushi here since I first moved to SF in 2011 and I want to let everyone know that I am always satisfied and happy when I order !

I classify sushi/seafood in three categories :
-Super-duper dirt cheap (Low quality sushi that you can fill up on $2-$4 per roll)

-Best bang for your buck (Moderate-high quality sushi that your wallet can handle)

-High-priced overly expensive (Grade A sushi made from licensed chefs where a few hand rolls will cost you this week's paycheck)

Everything is very subjective depending on individuals taste but overall many people can tell what what is bad , what is good , and what is better :p

Yum yum fish is the best bang for your buck !

Chirashi bowl $15.45
This is my usual I get when I am here ! You will actually be surprised that it is a pretty big bowl of chirashi ! I drop in and order a chirashi bowl to go , walk over to Wonderful (my favorite boba place) to get a drink and come back to see my order is ready ! Also try to get there earlier in the day ! Obviously because the seafood is fresher but they close early as well when they no longer have rice to serve !

I totally agree what you mean about not being impressed ; majority of they time my mouth is only happy when my wallet is empty and my stomach is not full because the portion is so tiny !

Yum yum definitely bang for your buck !

I have not tried those places yet but I definitely will !

On days where I am so broke and I just need to fill my stomach I go to
2190 Irving St
San Francisco, CA 94122
b/t 22nd Ave & 23rd Ave in Outer Sunset

(Funny because it is across the street from Yum yum fish)

Not the best quality but the price can't be beat , basically $2.50 for a California Roll (8 pieces)
http://s3-media1.fl.yelpcdn.com/bpho...k2td8IUg/l.jpg

If anything I would also get the salt and pepper chicken (popcorn chicken) from there ! IMO the best popcorn chicken I had from a boba place before !
(Let's Roll is connected to Teaway a boba shop on Irving)

Kim Son Vietnamese Restaurant
3614 Balboa St

If you want some pretty good Vietnamese food I would recommend this !
https://scontent-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/hp...c5&oe=558D94C8
(King Special Broken Rice Plate)

My favorite part is definitely the shrimp cake wrapped around a sugar cane skewer chunk !
Delicious !

Bumping this thread because I just learned about it and my GF and I go into SF all the time for some good food! Will remember to post if we find any good spots.

Rachey's FR-S 11-10-2015 11:41 AM

Thanks for this bump. I totally forgot about this thread!

Recently had some fresh Ahi Poke at:

Poki Bowl
4750 Almaden Expy
Ste A
Blossom Valley
San Jose, CA 95118
(669) 247-7654

http://www.yelp.com/biz/poki-bowl-sa...f=yelp-android

It's Chipotle style (process not lack of quality) where you go down the line to pick your ahi, salmon, etc. then your toppings. Everything is super fresh! I had my bowl with rice. Next time I might have it as a salad.

There's another new poke place in downtown San Jose that I will have to try. Then another opening up soon in Cupertino.

Poke FTW!

Another place I've been frequenting is:

Kotetsu
2089 El Camino Real
Santa Clara, CA 95050
(408) 557-0822

http://www.yelp.com/biz/kotetsu-sant...f=yelp-android

I just can't get enough ramen! Especially now that the weather is calling for warm slurpy bowls of broth! Kotetsu is yummy and consistent. Try the black pepper chicken karaage as an appetizer :)

+1 for Kotetsu. Most people claim Orenchi as the #1 ramen as southbay.

I'd give it to Kotetsu over Orenchi by a bit - not waiting an hour or two is just icing.
