Oh well, wasn't buying the car because it's fast.

^ I presume you have pneumatic lifters built into that S2000 suspension so you can actually drive it on real roads lol...
Reminds me of an F430 I saw coming out of a car wash onto the road, he badly scraped the bottom of his front lip spoiler coming down the curb ramp, it made a huge racket. I broke out laughing, the guy didn't appreciate it, roared away leaving a nice patch.... |

A lot of people get this car as DD. No way I will DD a 10-15 year old car, unless day to day reliability is not a factor. Sure, for weekend toy, it might be a better idea. |

I loved my S2K but it was too impractical, and although I didn't want a convertible I ended up loving the convertible aspect of it. I loved the shifter, the engine, the looks. Everything. I've always wanted a car like the S2000 in coupe form, and like you say...here it is. |

In my last S2000, the worst mileage I ever got was 18.9 MPG and that was beating the hell out of the car all afternoon for a spirited 200 mile drive with friends. I averaged 24.5 MPG in that car with a best of 29.4 MPG and I autocrossed that car on several occasions, which I haven't done with my current one. I do absolutely agree with you about the FR-S/BRZ offering a good amount of the S2000's fun while being worlds more practical though. The tiny trunk, loud soft top, puny stereo, and uncomfortable (for long trips) seats are four of the prime reasons I'm considering parting ways with my S for an FR-S/BRZ. |
What if I don't live my life a 1/4 mile at a time?

I guess you'll never be free.

Oh wait! Honda already did that with the S2000. The S2000 is 50/50 weight distribution. 240hp. 9000 rpm redline. 2800lbs. Specs are very competitive with the BRZ. But remember.. This is a OLD car. The BRZ is a new car. Honda did a great job with the S2000 and the Integra Type R. New cars still aren't as quick and fun to drive as the original ITR. And that thing is from the year 2000. New cars just aren't the same. The BRZ and FRS is looking to change that. It's a good direction for automakers but the BRZ and FRS still isn't as good as some old classics. |

AS was mentioned a million times before, the Zx6 is supposed to be a more livable car. Fixed roof, back seat. I doubt that the suspension is stiffer than the S2k. |

FWIW, after driving an FR-S (finally) tonight, I may be willing to argue that the chassis is better than my S2000. The FA20 left a little bit of excitement to be desired, but the chassis itself was brilliant. |
I felt the same thanks for verifying! I miss my S but the FRS/BRZ is more practical and its just exactly what i want!!!! But i have pictures of my S next to my bed. So that says it.....she left me too early :( some one took her from me by driving like an ass :(. Then I got an Audi TT, nice car but no S. Still fun with some moderate upgrades but the electrical system has a POS!

I hope he does *not* buy a 86/BRZ.. It would give the rest of us a bad image. |

I'm just really praying the stock FA20 motor can take some boost without internal work. The F20 and F22 are great motors to handle boost. Even though the BRZ and FRS are designed to be 200hp cars, I'm sure there will be a good selection of individuals planning to get more power from the FA20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=w5zhwl_9n0Y And before I get told that the BRZ and FRS wasn't meant to be a drag queen, neither was the S2000 |
With as much as the after market companies are already all over the platform I see it being developed even quicker then the s2k. Its going to be very popular and i see us having many tuner options just like the s if not more. Good things! Can't wait to see once the car is even more available in japan and the us because 10 times as many shops will have their hands on it!

Isn't the FR-S with a boxer engine with one of the lowest C of G, comparable to porsche..
Does the s2000 come close..? |
Loved my S2000, but not very practical for a DD, loud, small, no backseat, etc. But I'm eyeing the FT-86 for a second family car. I think I'm going to drool over all you guys posts until the convertable comes out.

The vid was not a fair comparison... Drag race, we all knew the brz/frs would loose... But it does raise a question for single/married w/o children, or three car owner???? 15k buys an s2k or spend an extra 10k and get a brand new unmolested brz/frs??? Same drivetrain but no back seat, roadster(w/ hardtop available), possibly high mileage on the s2k... Honda did the s2k right when they first built it.... I do feel the brz/frs is slightly more practicle with better EPA, four seater, new car, and possibly better chasis...
Well i iust want to thank everyone for their opinions and facts... This decision just got a lot harder but i know now what side im leaning towards... |
I enjoyed my AP1 very much with its bolt-ons and 4.77 gears, but like everyone else said, somewhat impractical. Especially since I stored it during the winter. My FR-S is everyting I wanted the S to be (minus the power) but to be honest, driving around town the FR-S is quicker. The F-20 has gutless low end and midrange where as this boxer seems lively under 3k rpms. I have not regretted my purchase after three days and 300 miles, I am loving this thing more and more. I actually WANT to drive this car everywhere! I found the S to be exhausting to drive and I often took my Civic if I ran errands.
|
Being an S2k Owner myself. Its the feel of the car overall that makes you want to keep the car or not. Its not the engine that drove me to love the s2k but the transmission and suspension.
I hope to get in a BRZ or FT soon during our exhaust prototype process to see how well it handles. |

as for the thread, I knew the s2000 would pull away but I didn't expect it to pull away that much. The AP1's lack of low end probably makes it less amusing than a brz in low speed corners but idk. I'd like to replace my fiancee's civic coupe with something a little more interesting and I'm trying to decide between something like an s2k, mr2 or just save up for a while and get a brz/frs |
A lot of misinformation about S2k's
I had an 05 that I absolutely loved and regrettably totaled. Mine had the F22 and for the weight of the car had no lack of torque, I've driven ap1's also I averaged 27mpg The way the car drove is what I fell in love with. The steering, the transmission, the feedback. http://dc13b.smugmug.com/Other/My-S2.../IMG0108-L.jpg http://dc13b.smugmug.com/Other/My-S2...89_inuoH-L.jpg I'm looking forward to my BRZ. I'm not all about power. Ive had a gt3076r jetta and a 6262 mk3 supra. But my favorite cars I've had are the ones that offer the best driving experience. the s2k was at the top of that list P.S I track most of my cars |
Bought my S2K new in 2002 and still fun to drive to this day. Wasn't a convertible fan but bought it because of its main attributes plus knew I could get hardtop for it. Tracked and canyon drove it. Big fan of FT86/BRZ and based on reviews so far, I plan on having one next to my S2K.
