I'll occasionally do it at a red light, but never while in motion.

Who do you need to text so badly that you cant wait 15 minutes till you get to your destination? And if it's that urgent why can't you call the person?

Doesn't count. You're stopped, not driving.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

I'll usually just call someone or reply later if it's that urgent. That's what Bluetooth is for.

I have to admit to playing around with Spotify at times though.

Seems legit

Yes a little bit, but trying to cut it out completely. Really so dangerous.

But you're far less likely to run into someone when you're stopped ;).

A ticket is better than a negligent homicide charge any day.

This is yet another reason why automatics suck. You are basically being driven by the car, so you have less reason to be paying attention to things like... oh... keeping your foot on the brake!

I'm so used to stick, that even at a drive-thru when picking up my food and I have the parking brake on, my feet still stay planted on brake and clutch till I double check that the shifter is in neutral.

Yeah, I won't be the one who creeps into another car.

True, but that's his fault, not yours.

Being the person colliding b/c you're distracted as opposed to being stopped at an intersection and getting hit by someone who should have noticed well ahead of time that you were stopped (even if you should have been moving) is much worse.

I use Siri. My friends know if my texts barely make sense its because i'm driving.

PoorMansRacing 03-28-2014 03:19 PM

iPhone 4 - I'm too uncool for Siri :(

SirBrass 03-28-2014 04:06 PM

Agreed, but the thing is: when is it safest to fiddle with your iThinkForYou and other idiot devices (said in the same jesting manner in which we used to call the television "the boob tube", back when "boob" meant "idiot")? While moving or while stopped?

A: while stopped at a stop light or stop sign. It is a place where stopped vehicles are unexpected. Sure you can still get rear-ended, but my point is that "texting while driving" doesn't count for when you're stopped. That's not distracted driving that is likely to get you and others killed.

The problem hardly lies with people distracted by their devices getting rear-ended at stop lights. That's only a theoretical possibility that so rarely happens that it's often not even thought about (I'm sure it has happened, but I doubt the likelihood is anywhere close to being above statistical zero). The problem is in people who are distracted while moving, and thus not watching where they're aiming their 1.5 ton missile traveling over 60mph.

zigzagz94 03-28-2014 04:30 PM

I will support your right to be a dumbass who talks or texts while driving if you agree that I get to beat the crap out of you if you run into me while on your phone.

Been rear ended by a texter and have no empathy for that kind of stupidity.

I say no, because you can continue to watch the road while you eat

I say yes, b/c the thing is just so damned big you'll be distracted by half of it dumping into your lap every time you try and take a bite. ;) :D

Not gonna lie, I do text but only when I'm at a stop light.

Ugh, such arbitrary DNS filtering. "This website is blocked due to its current content categorization: "Informational;Entertainment;Games" "

Step 1: get a bowl instead.
Step 2: don't get it to go.

I will admit to texting while driving. But in my defense, it was an 8 hour trip, New Mexico is straight and flat and boring, and there was no one around me.
