Just completed my second northern ny/ Canadian winter on the stock summers. Had a few scary moments but no accidents. This car has no trouble in the winter you just have to be smart about when to use the nannies. Very impressed by this car :D

In the hands of a seasoned winter driver, the BRZ can be used in the snow with appropriate winter tires. My kids are 20, 19, 18 and 16 and they are only allowed to drive the 4 x 4 in the snow. My BRZ was parked for most of the winter and has never been on the road in snow or @ temps lower than 32F. This was just my choice to let it sit beside the Audi R8 and Mini Cooper as the winter was terrible this year.

I am fortunate to have the option to leave it parked but if I did not to have that option, I would not own a BRZ. Again, just my choice to only drive a 4 x 4 in the snow.

If you get an 86, good luck and think twice about taking it out on unnecessary trips in the snow until you have gained significant experience.

Using this car (or any car) in the winter on summer tires in an area that gets a significant amount of snowfall is a terrible idea. You're asking for trouble. Sure, you might get lucky for a while, but there's a reason why summer tires aren't recommended for use in the winter.

I got BF Goodrich winter slalom. I got no complains about them as far as winter driving, never got stuck ones. 2nd winter.

I have 16" X-Ice 3's on my BRZ. Car has been great in everything except fluffy or deep snow. Never felt a risk of losing control, only of getting stuck.

I still wish this winter would end. I've never seen a winter like this ever. (Atlantic Canada)

The only issues I had this year in the snow was in snow deeper than 6-8 inches. On normal snow covered roads and hills I had no issues with a set of General Altimax Artics at stock height. I have 50lbs of sand over each rear wheel and I didn't have any issues starting on steep hills. The car is a ton of fun when you can find the space and turn off TC.

I drove my BRZ all winter without any problems. I've been running 215/55r16 winter tires. I also added a couple sand bags in the trunk. Handled like a champ!

Snow Tires are key!

I drove in every snow storm (NJ) this year, several pretty bad, with 255/40/18 Hankook V12 summer performance tires. Never spun out, never had any accidents, got stuck one time trying to get out of a parking lot whose exit was plowed over.

Knowing the limits of the vehicle you are driving and not exceeding those limits is all it's about. I left extra room knowing my stopping distance was sub-par and was gentle on the throttle.

This is a very bad idea.

Yes it is.

As a side note, New Jersey must be flat as a board, at least where woode lives. It takes an unbelievably shallow incline to stop a RWD car on performance summers absolutely dead in its tracks in the snow, and careful driving can't do a thing to change that.

Very few hills in my commute. I was able to avoid the couple that would give me problems. Momentum and steady throttle on the shallow ones.

Yeah I was thinking that too. Even on 215 width all-seasons, I had to crab walk my way up some pretty shallow inclines with this car. Road crown pushing the rear end one way, me countersteering fighting to get up the hill. And that was with only 3" unplowed snow.

On 255 width summer tires in a more serious storm, no chance.

Bought a new FRS for my first winter up in Michigan, and what a winter it has been. Running 205/55R16 Michelin X Ice 3's on it though, and I've had no problems at all. Going on a snowboarding trip this weekend before all the snow goes away in fact.

Here's a pic from a trip I took in January :)

Did someone say something about driving a BRZ in the snow? How does that work? It can't work! Unpossible! :confused0068:
