My coworker's son has a R/C quad-copter that gopros can be mounted to in case we want to get some aerial shots. Let me know if anyone is interested in this so I can talk to him.

Are you friends/have connections with them? lol. Perhaps they can just edit our film together if they don't have time to shoot for us? They must charge a pretty penny though...

Anyways, bumping this thread. Are we gonna roll with this plan or what? It's already April! @NickFRS where you at? I will push this forward if you don't :D

Nick might bail last minute. 😂

Rio 04-08-2014 12:41 AM

I have always thought that aerial cameras are very risky and difficult to control. It's not easy to fly a pro level helicopter and that's what these are. I don't like the idea of one of those around my car LOL

http://petapixel.com/2014/04/07/came...still-unclear/

m.box.design 04-08-2014 12:45 AM

So since the thread title is the Last Day of May, I'm assuming we're going to be doing the shoot on May 31st. Now here is my idea, time will quickly run out on us if we just narrow this down to one day.

So! The 31st should simply be a get together and cruise with video and photography. Place is to be determined, however the drive up Larch Mountain can be good for a shoot, however, sunny weather may bring more public traffic up there as well. So, we should definitely pick a spot that may be a bit more remote with less traffic. Perhaps one of the camp grounds up by Mt.Hood? I know the entrance to Frog Lake offers a large parking lot for trucks which offers a lot of space for parking for a group photo.

Another aspect of this video project I think would add a nice touch would be to have individuals or small teams go around filming one another in different parts of the city, kind of like showcasing the PDX area, but also to give a compositional vibe of "individuals gathering up to meetup for a cruise". That way we can have shots of driving around downtown, the SE industrial district, Skyline Rd, Crown Point, amongst other landmarks around the area.

What do you guys think?!

NickFRS 04-08-2014 02:38 AM

I'm not going to bail.... Lol. Sorry guys i've just been busy. I'll read everything/update tonight when I get home.

Chen 04-08-2014 05:03 AM

I like mikes idea. Would we all meet up afterwards and also just do a cruise? Or are the groups just all on their own? And how would we break up groups?

We could almost have everyone meet up at Cascade station. Grab some lunch. Hand out some maps/routes and split up into teams. Go around and film different locations with different cars. Then meet up somewhere on 26. We could use my school as the re-meet location. Since the parking lot will be empty and I have the authority to use or organize the parking lot. And kick people out. (or we could meet up at the gas station that's off 26 n 212. We could then get all the cars together and head up 26 (not even a mile from the school) and go to a camp ground like you suggested. How ever this works out I love your idea. But yea I think may 31st was the general idea.

He's super busy... just saying that he has an FR-S and the skills... I'll talk to him and see what he says.

NickFRS 04-11-2014 01:11 AM

Would anyone be interested in maybe grabbing some lunch this weekend and set up a legit game plan? :) It's going to be sunny!

503 BRZ 04-11-2014 01:19 AM

Not sure if it'd matter but my brother was going to tag along with me shotgun. He's bringing a Go-Pro. He himself has a Tacoma, if we wanted, we could mount a couple Go-Pro's on there for better/different angles...just a thought!

I'm sure his suspension is softer than most of our cars as well, so shots would be much steadier.

Dang, I forgot... well, each install takes about 30-40 minutes, so the two events should be able to go on simultaneously... damn, bad planning.

BRZPDX 04-28-2014 01:52 PM

can @NickFRS update the first post, don't want to sift through all this to find the exact details of this event. May is a busy month so I really want to make it to this event, so I can clear up my schedule. Time/Location/Date/How long/Where to/Bring what etc. And I will need to order my front lip before then!!

If you guys need me to scout, or for some preliminary footage, it'll have to be this week or the end of next week, since i'll be out of town from the 16th through the 25th.

I am gone 5/3-9 and i will be at SOLO event 5/17-18. I will probably scout Old Genrmantown Rd. sometime in between those dates.

m.box.design 05-01-2014 02:51 AM

@BRZPDX was out at crown point today, so he can scout that, since it's his stomping grounds. Mine too, but I'll leave it up to him. :D

Also, @torqdork do you know any side roads off the main Larch Mountain Rd that might not have as much spring/summer traffic?

Chen 05-01-2014 04:12 AM

We keeping this in the metro area?

Here's my "secret" loop beginning/ending at McMenamins Edgefield. I had to split the map into two parts, couldn't get the route to draw in one loop without it trying to redraw. Figure 90 minutes non-stop, more for photos and breaks. I take it clockwise, it seems a little more scenic and fun that way.

Careful, though. I drove it last weekend and the roads are in the worst shape I've ever seen with potholes and gravel that might have the lowered car owners hating me. Maybe they swept this week or the heavy rains washed away the gravel. I expect that by month end they'll have filled in the potholes.

Otherwise pick almost any loop off of E. Larch Mtn. road except for Palmer Mill Rd. that is dirt in places. Also, is the road open to the top of Larch Mtn. now? The snow gate is usually closed at around the 10 mile marker (out of 14 to the summit parking area where the car clubs take a break) until late May or early June. Hood River Forest Ranger District should know but are closed now.

at this point, i think we should. furthest east we should go is crown point/multnomah falls.

i really believe that we should have small teams (which can even film prior to the day of) that can get shots of all the cool scenic routes like german town rd and old columbia river hwy. that way, we're not trying to get a big caravan of 86ers to try and film on a weekend in which those roads will be littered with tourists.

I would, but am leaving for a training ride to Multnomah Falls now with 20 lbs. of food, water and tools. Watch out for road bikes, thanks!
