The body shop that I took it to said they were one of the easiest pieces they have ever done. And I told them I paid only around $75 for them and they were shocked at how good it fit for so cheap. I got to say though it's a 9/10 fit I was recommended to not use the double sided tape that was attached to the kit. So I used the body shops 3m tape so I have never tried their tape but it looked legit.

Which shop did you go to for paint?

Well I LITERALLY just got the front lip in an unpackaged it. First thing I have to say is the packaging is very well done. It didn't come in a box but was basically wrapped in a bubble wrap, heavy duty cardboard armor and a whole lot of box tape. If it was going to get broken it would have to get run over by a truck. Also had "fragile" box tape around it to. Not that that usually helps but it was still there. So after i got it out of its armor shipping cage it looked very good as far as quality. The finish is very smooth and crisp. The edges are a tiny bit ruff and i do mean tiny bit. I will most likely take a bit of 300 grit sand paper to them when I test fit it. The ABS is quality thickness. Probably about 1/8 inch. There is 4 metal brackets on the underneath of the lip to attach it to the car which are riveted to the bumper and not screwed which shows more effort to me in quality.

It comes with the rubber edging where the lips fits up tight to the bumper of the car with is AWESOME. Leaves a very nice edge, also a very nice addition.
Then a few bolt for the license plate and a few screws for where it wraps around the inner wheel wells. It does not come with double sided tape so that will have to be added but not a big deal to me.

There was 1 small gouge in the front about 1/2 inch long but easily fixed before paint.

I can not speak for the fitment to the car just yet because my car is under a cover in my driveway with 6 inches of snow on it right now but as far as fist impressions and over all quality i am completely satisfied.

This bumper should is very good for the price and its defiantly not going to get that sag that occurs with poly kits.

you mention you are going remove the license plate frame..right?? please do a DIY on it, if I go with this front lip I will probably remove the license plate frame too..just dont know how the ABS holds while cutting it.

jonathan9573 02-05-2014 06:00 PM

I will do the best I can for a DIY but it will be pretty labor intensive .

Front lip arrived today. Left California on the 4th, delivered to my shop in maryland on the 6th. Awesome. Packaging was perfect. Actually took about 10 minutes to get it out haha. Edges were all clean, but the best part was fitment. My bumper is off the car and on a bumper stand. Fitment was spot on. All gaps were perfect, all corners lined up as they should. Not sure what the oem has to offer over this. Took a few pics but won't be home to upload them until Saturday probably

jonathan9573 02-06-2014 10:53 PM

Good to hear. I won't be test fitting mine till the snow clears up here in illinois.

i am not correcting anything on it. the kit is not even supposed to be double sided taped on. there are supposed to be two screws up behind the license plate into the bumper (i drilled two new holes slightly lower so they are into the grille so nothing permanent is done to the bumper). then the clips underneath. the rubber gasket is there to hide any slight gap since its not taped to the bumper. i will be adding an inch or so of tape to each section just to make sure it does stay snug.

jonathan9573 02-07-2014 02:13 PM

Did you order the whole kit or just the front lip?

Are those two screws supposed to dig into the bumper? If I do get this maybe ill put something over it.

jonathan9573 02-07-2014 04:09 PM

They are rivets and they are mounted far enough in they they should t touch the bumper. I have not test fitted it yet but spitfire481 has and might be able to get a pic of where they actually rest when it's mounted to the car.

If you were to chop off the upper portion, would it still flow with the bumper's "mouth"?

that is my plan too....I've seem picture that had the license plate frame removed, but it just don't look right without it. might be a better look if cuts the lip as you mentioned on the pic.

jonathan9573 02-12-2014 01:10 PM

So has anyone seen or has considered painting the entire front clip body color instead of spraying in the flat black areas?

spitfire481 02-13-2014 12:13 AM

The section you guys are looking to cut are hollow. when you cut that you will have a decent gap between the lip and bumper

Midarete 02-13-2014 04:48 PM

Would love to see some pictures with the TRD sideskirts as well :P

spitfire481 02-13-2014 05:25 PM

Ill probably go into the shop over the weekend and spray the color matched parts. Ill do the satin black next week sometime. I have some damaged Apr brake cooling ducts ill be painting satin black as well once I'm finished repairing them

Could you snap a few pics before you spray the satin black? You have the same color as I do and would love to see it.

I have that same lip, I have to grind down the corners a little bit where the fog light bezel is or else it doesn't really fit flush when you actually have fog lights so keep that in mind if you are ever going to install fog lights in the future. When you have everything painted and mounted already it'll be a lot harder to work on afterwards.

I will be taping off the satin sections before spraying the body color. Then coming back in a few days and spraying the satin black. That way rock chips in the satin black will always show black, not body color

FRSHunter 02-15-2014 03:14 AM

that foglight part concerns me, it looks good on bumpers without foglights though. I currently have fogs on my car and this might be a dealbreaker, how much did you have to grind down?

quite a bit. Like 5mm? I still need to test fit it a few more times first

Which kit is the Bayson Type-T replicating?

Sorry, I was referring to this, but it's not Bayson's:

I think they trying to replicate TOMS kit in this one

It looks like their T-Style (TRD) parts are all on sale right now. I don't even have my FRS yet and i'm thinking about picking up the front bumper and side skirts....

What do you guys think? Price to quality ratio worth the purchase? Seems like everyone is for the most part agrees that this kit is a very valid and worthy replica for someone wanting the TRD kit.

EDIT:

Nvm, I see they are an even cheaper deal on ebay right now with free shipping... That much closer to buying... haha

Also, are you guys satisfied with the overlap over the foglight area? Anyone have solutions to that?

spitfire481 02-17-2014 02:07 PM

Even the factory kit overlaps into the fog light area some, it's part of the design. Maybe it's a hair less on the factory but a quick shave with a dremel and it would be perfect. I don't have fogs so I'm not sure what the problem is. It fits perfect with factory non fog grilles. It's basically a 1:1 copy and I had zero issues during my test fit.

I'm speaking from what I've read, not my personal exoeriebce, but the TRD is built to fit like a glove, with minimal hardware. The replica, when attached well, fits well, but with more hardware/labor. A body shop or a skilled worker can do great work with the replica.

Hmmm. Alright. I'm obviously in no rush since I don't even have the car yet. haha. But I think i'll be bookmarking this for purchase when I get my car. :)
