My best friend attempted to instruct me quite some time ago in his POS Cavalier. I must have two right feet because I drive stick about as well as I dance. Perhaps some day, but, on that occasion, it resulted in the engine service light coming on because I stalled it so many times.

Further, at least when my wife and I take my car, she can still drive it when I have had a few too many "beverages". Her stick driving abilities are on par with mine.

As you say, we still enjoy the car. :burnrubber:

I've heard I should've gotten the turbo version, the TRD supercharger, an STi, a Mustang, a Supra (sometimes I agree with this because I almost got one over my FR-S), and I'm sure a few others I'm not remembering.

jblmr2 12-17-2013 06:33 PM

People who know me usually ask, "So did you trade in the MR2 Spyder?" Which is followed by my response..." ah....no." That is followed by, "So you've got 2 sports cars? (me) Well...ah...yes."

Is it a bit indulgent, definitely! But I have the advantage of having an SO who has a large comfortable 4 door sedan to carry the grandkids around in.

Life is good!

sofrsnsokleen 12-17-2013 07:19 PM

luckily the people i work with and friends and family i have don't really know much about my car. Yesterday i was getting ready to leave with my partner for field visits and had to stop by my car and she was like "is that a maserati?" i was like, umm yeah, you know where we work? lol, most people i've ran into are always impressed simply on the looks. Its the nicest looking car in the price range. If anyone ever asks me as to why i didn't get a gen coupe i'm going to cut them off and say, its fast but ugly as fuck. I'd much rather have a car that looks nice at a stand still than a car that looks like shit no matter how fast it is.

hmong337 12-21-2013 04:54 AM

This thread is actually pretty funny lol.

I've never had anybody second my choice in the frs. In fact, all my closest friends reassured my purchase of the frs. My cousin being one that said... "for a brand new $25k car, there's no questioning you got the right one!".

Most conversations I've had with people talking about my FR-S start with asking me how I like the car and if I've seen the new XXX or YYY model from "Brand X". The only time someone has suggested I should have bought something else was from a dumb kid at the shop that I got my tires mounted. He told me I should have waited for the turbo awd version that was announced to be coming next year (this was in 2012). I nodded and agreed with him with the most fake sincerity I could muster.

I got the exact opposite from all my friends when I was shopping for a new car. Bouncing between the FR-S, Gen Coupe, and the Fiesta ST, every one of my friends said no question on which to get. Needless to say my friend was very excited the only time I let him drive the piss out of my car. Actually scared my a few times haha.

The auto suits my needs and had the AT sucked, I would have forced myself to learn manual. Thank God they didn't put a CVT in the car. Despite the slower 0-60 time for the AT FR-S, it is one of the best AT's for its price point and I don't regret my choice at all.

I wanted a manual transmission car but the fuckers only had an one FRS in stock and it was an automatic transmission. I even asked them if they could order me a manual and give me a loaner Corolla or something for the meanwhile and they said no. And no, I couldn't wait the 6 weeks it would have taken to get the manual FR-S. (I was rear-ended in an accident the month before and my old car was totaled and the other guy's insurance company refused to let me have a rental car for more than a month.) And, I couldn't go to another dealership because my friend's friend was the financial manager at this dealership and he got me approved for a lease even though my credit score is horrible.

Mo707 12-21-2013 05:58 PM

I think its just dumb and almost 90% of people that say something like that have no idea what there talking about. Trying to compare 2 diffrent classes. Like when i got my car my buddy asked why i didnt get the mustang 5.0. Like really? :paddle:
I trend to ignore people that start there first sentance like that.
Instead i would rather have someone ask why i didnt get .....
IMO

"WTF, the gen coupe has like 350 hp" another guy "damn, so its like 180hp? you do know the gen coupe has like 340 hp right?" another guy "thats the frs huh? no its the brz, they are similar with slight differences. oh yeah, looks like a 16 year old girls first car. you do know about the genesis 2 door right?"

I then inform them Ive got something at home in the 545 hp range if they would like to line up just let me know where. The more I drive the BRZ the more I enjoy it. That's enough for me.

I drove my brother in law's Genesis Coupe 6MT today. Did it make me want a supercharger on my BRZ? YES, DEFINITELY.

Did it make me want a Genesis? Nope. For a number of reasons.

When somebody says you're "lucky" when I know I worked my ass off, I tell them otherwise. It's like thanking jesus after a surgery that a surgeon has been working on for 5-10 hours. Its nonsense. If you truly don't care then don't respond to this post.

You apparently haven't seen how many surgeries go bad and how many people doctors kill every year with mistakes - it's in the range of 100k per year (I've done a fair amount of medical malpractice litigation).

If a 5-10 hour surgery comes off without a hitch, you might want to consider thanking Jesus that it did.

nyfries 12-25-2013 01:27 AM

One of my frd said i should have bought a rsx, a genesis or a 350/370z. i quote him "frs is so slow its not even consider a sport cars, mind as well get a corolla" he has a rsx and a 350z. figures

Without the surgeon there wouldn't even be a chance of the person living at all. If your only choice left was for a surgery or laying in bed praising for Jesus what would you choose? Exactly.

You can't act like everything that happens after the surgery table is Jesus's work.

Anyways, i'm not trying to step on anybody's toes here and im sorry if i offended anybody

Not offended at all... just pointing out that it's hardly uncommon for surgeons and docs to screw up - happens all the time. In one case I was involved in, the ob/gyn left part of the placenta inside the woman after she gave birth. She went back complaining of complications once a week for six weeks and he didn't bother to examine her. She finally went to a different hospital and doc and the 2nd doc discovered it... about 24-48 hours before she would have died. She required an immediate complete hysterectomy to save her life... right in the middle of her child bearing years.

OT, I know, but numerous studies show that - whether God is real or not - faith in God is beneficial to people. It could be a placebo, but if it helps, then why knock it?

My argument is just giving credit to where credit is due, that is all.

I've owned two cobras. It would never be a regular mustang. I actually pretty much set the last one up to open track and my buddies still give me a hard time about selling it.

End of the day it came down to the fact that it is a HORRIBLE daily driver and completely impractical.

The FRS will get a supercharger eventually, rims and brakes and some lightweight goodies. The car will continue to get good gas mileage and be livable and comfortable on the street, which the cobra was not. It was just better suited for how much I drive.

My first car was a turbo'd talon loved that car to death and also drove it to death.
Purchased a 350z and now am a proud owner of an fr-s most fun I've ever had driving. :D

I have not shut up about the BRZ for the last month and a half. Everyone at work hears me talk about it and none of them are car guys except for one of my best friends on line, he is an older guy in his 40's He loves american muscle, he thinks Miatas are Girl cars. but he is not dumb, and he knows the BRZ is better for the type of driving I want to do.

I even have my Subaru Brz song that I sing many times a day because I work on an assembly line and am ADHD as hell.

"I want a Subaru B-R-Z.
It is the bestest car you See.
A turn of the key fills you with glee,
but the girls won't play with your pee pee"

So My team leader says when I mention I want a BRZ. "YOU ARE SO LAME FOR THAT!!! SOOO LAME!!! WHY DONT YOU LIKE THE GENESIS? GET A WRX ITS AWD AND AWD IS BETTAH "

Why caps? he was pretty much yelling. He has no concept of an inside voice.

And of course everyone thinks Mustangs and camaros and chargers are the end all be all ...

I havent even bought the car yet and people are already telling me what I should buy.

My friend brought his new Fiat Abarth over, he said every toyobaru owner is jealous of the exhaust sound. And it is a nice sound, it's all fizzy and a nice sound, the car is great too, nice roomy interior, and I could lean the seat all the way back and it was still a comfortable passenger riding position. It was so fast, I wasn't expecting the turbo bubble and when it hit that car was a rocket! Plush suspension handled potholes, great city car.

Yeah the sound on the abarth is great all the time, just sounds fizzy, barking, and a little drunk and loud, but it doesn't have any of the top end scream of our NA toyobaru.

And the shifter in our BRZ/FR-S is so much better than the Fiat's - it was plush feeling, but too soft and vague, shifting 1st - 2nd felt like it was a mile away.

My first car was a 90' Plymouth Laser 2.0 NA. I thought that car was the fucking tits even though it was a total piece. pop-up headlights ftw :burnrubber:

lol, yea it's italian for slow, dumb, moron but also used to describe italians, too. Since you were making fun of an italian car I just connected the dots although re-reading I can see you were talking about the looks of the car not the makers.

I don't care - I'm Irish .
