Can anybody chime in as to why TRD choose that supercharger design and why none of the current supercharger offering look anywhere like it ?

I know it was for racing only but I assume they did their homework... I wonder what that design has to offer compared to aftermarket.

Looks to me like a great location, away from the rest of the engine and all.. I don't know why nobody design something like it. The casting may be hard to reproduce I assume ?

would that be the big problem ?

Second race of the weekend it broke again.

The results are only slightly better than "demise". . .

Nothing for many months, then a crash and a broken car with both DNFs.

I think part of the problem is the US is too focused on high HP muscle cars that are quick off the line. This car could be great for true endurance racing if someone would invest in development (aka factory!).

Hey! This is kind of an update post…a LONG time later…but quoting you cause the info I have would be most relevant.

I own one of the two TRD superchargers the KSR team didn’t use. Because I threw it on, and it’s the only one in private hands and has been on a car in the past 10+ years, I tried to get into contact with Ken Stout himself to get some info on the blower and the car itself.

Blower info aside, this is what Stout told me. Essentially, the reliability with the car was flawed all along. Most people would most likely point fingers at the fact that it’s FI, the engine itself, or something like that. What it really came down to was the tuner and the injectors. The tuner they used originally wanted to use a specific type of injectors. Because this is what they trusted would work, they went with it and ended up having a ton of engine problems. Near the end of the season they switched tuners and the new tuner opted for Bosch injectors. As soon as it was retuned with the new tuner and injectors, it became way more reliable. If you look at the race results, it got way better in the last few races and showed potential. Unfortunately though, they already had submitted to PWC to use a turbo EJ in the 2014 season by the time they got the car fixed, and switched over to that before they FA20/supercharger setup could be used to its full potential.

I’ve had the supercharger on my car for a year and a half, 15,000 miles or so, flex fuel tube, 350whp, and it runs like a champ (Bosch injectors too). Super unfortunate for the team though
