As long as your not going out in storms the car isn't that bad in snow. That being said my car is pretty useless right now as we just got 50 cm of snow. Yay spring!

Interesting responses, alternative question-

As somebody who already owns their winter beater (98 camry, family heirloom), would you guys still recommend keeping it and insuring it? The FRS/BRZ would be my DD during the calmer months and I would only drive the Camry during the winter (lets hope this year was an anomaly). I wouldn't be able to get very much out of it, and the utility option alone I think would pay for itself. Can I just insure the car during the winter or do I need to pay for both year round?

I'm pretty sure you have to keep the FRS on your insurance even throughout the winter but because you're not driving it the rates go down to like under $30 a month...

The point of my post was money aside - putting this car away for the winter really means you're missing out on a whole different level this car has to offer...I think best case I would use a beater for the daily commutes where salt is everywhere but still have my FRS for a once-a-week commute or for a weekend snow drift or something...best of both worlds...You're not getting your "baby" all salted but you still get to enjoy it in the snow

Either way if I had to choose between using a beater and letting a bit of salt on the paint vs. keeping it a garage queen and only driving it 5-6 months out of the year....no brainer I'm driving it through the winter...I bought this car to drive it :burnrubber: :burnrubber:

Yes, I've seen a lot of that corrosion on a lot of other newer cars as well. Seems auto makers are cheapening out on exhaust materials as of the past few years.

You might want to get something a bit more practical, like one of these

Hey OP,

I survived winter with blizzaks as well :D I gotta agree with you that the car was actually even MORE fun in the winter haha. The thing im worried about now is the salt corrosion. What next steps are you planning on taking to rust proof your car? And since i'm assuming you live in the GTA... do you know any good places locally?

Check this out...heard nothing but good reviews and they offer a lifetime rust warranty if you get your car oiled every winter with them
This is what I'll be doing next winter for sure

Finally got to drive it today after a long hibernation! New wheels, tires and sway bars. After driving a Prius and Odyssey all Winter it sure feels good.
