No bs. Its light, its responsive, quick acceleration, smoothest shortest clutch ive ever driven. Responsive brakes, touchy throttle.

Wow thats really good news! Thanks... Please try the Audio out please!

Congrats again on the trip

the premium pioneer system sounded GREAT

keiri 03-19-2012 11:52 PM

Can't wait to see your in-depth preview/review of your drive and the car.

It's going to be tough to sleep soundly tonight knowing there will be fresh news of the car to read.

Thanks so much!

poormans_LFA 03-19-2012 11:54 PM

did your knee rub the steering wheel while driving the car or just when the brake pedal firmed up when the car is parked and turned off??

my knee rubbed the steering wheel when i moved my leg to brake, it wasn't that big of a deal, but I'm going to lose like 20-30 pounds before the car comes into dealer..should help...=]

aznsensazian 03-20-2012 01:05 AM

Sweet, this reaffirms my want for this car. I can't wait to drive it! Thanks for the review!

poormans_LFA 03-20-2012 01:22 AM

Love the pictures! Very nice of Scion to show you the car ahead of time to make sure it fits you.

So the drift FRS is buttoned up already? That's rad. Edit: I guess, with the Long Beach event almost upon us, I shouldn't be surprised. Duh.

FREDUKE 03-20-2012 02:36 AM

did you ask about price?

GodSays 03-20-2012 02:42 AM

Good info you posted. Glad people are actually experiencing driving it.

Kiwi 03-20-2012 06:01 AM

If it is not too much to ask, could you give a short review on how the steering weight and feedback is compared to the mini cooper s and 328i?

I've had a chance to drive a R56 Cooper S and a E92 335i, I was very impressed with how the steering on those cars were like.
Thanks

SUB-FT86 03-20-2012 07:30 AM

Man I hope the steering isn't light feeling. I hope it feels hefty with turn in.

And a little easter egg, i spotted this, which happens to be Ken Gushis 600 HP Drift FR-S

That doesn't have the right shape to be the FR-S. Looks more like a 1st gen tC to me...

maxeveland 03-20-2012 08:09 AM

6'5 and no problem with headroom? That's a plus

Quick question?

Did they tell you that it was the Pioneer Premium sytem or was it actually the new Pioneer Bespoke system because the head units for the two look identical. Also was the car you drove indicative of a standard featured FR-S or was the audio system some sort of upgrade?

It would be interesting if Scion decided to offer the Pioneer Premium as the standard audio system with the Bespoke being their usual $500 upgrade. I have no problems with the premium system it is very good for factory audio.

Of course if they are going all in, as tripjammer believes, and offering Bespoke standard then that's even better.

GED68 03-20-2012 08:34 AM

How is right arm support for shifting...looks like there is none...

Thanks for the great info titusdrake! Sounds too good, cant wait to drive one!

NERO 03-20-2012 08:51 AM

My question is if you measured the trunk lid? I'm trying to figure out how big that is to see what spoiler will fit for time attack.

Eureka 03-20-2012 10:09 AM

How is the paint job? In picture 7 (or 8 if you count the tc), is that major orange peel or is it just me.

(K) 03-20-2012 10:34 AM

Looks like orange peel to me. Nothing a little wet sanding won't fix?

Point taken. Let me ask you this: With all the cars you have owned or driven and with what they cost new, what do you think the FR-S should sell for in the US. I have owned many of the same cars you listed plus a few. I would be interested in your opinion of where the "fun" factor should land the Scion pricewise in comparison.

chate 03-20-2012 01:28 PM

because i had it on my c5 and the gencoupe has it too, did the FRS have a "miles remaining on tank" type of readout somewhere?

I would think so, my 2010 xD has this reading in the same spot where the odometer would be. You just have to cycle through it using the stalk that resets the trip odo.

dookie11 03-20-2012 03:30 PM

Is this Pioneer stereo an option or standard?

Dionysus 03-20-2012 03:34 PM

I think it's an option.

rikerr 03-20-2012 03:53 PM

Im 6 foot 4 and this is good to hear. Wonder if you can fit with a helmet if you wanted to do some track stuff?

It might be standard. We won't know till pricing and final specs are released. Scion wants this deck as the standard deck on all Scions in the near future...ie 2013\2014 model years...The FR-S will be the first Scion offering this unit. It's called bespoke and it's not a Pioneer app radio unit. Its something different and it uses apps running in the cloud using you phone as the internet connection.

The Red manual FR-S that i drove had this sound system

the blue automatic FR-S that i first sat in had the system u see in the pic in my original thread post. I can try to get confirmation that its the Bespoke or not

ichitaka05 03-20-2012 04:10 PM

Thanks

i drove a 328 a few months ago and a cooper s about a year ago..both were very good, the FR-S steering was balanced, it was sort of a "heavy" turn in but it still felt light and controllable.

I pumped bass up in the blue fr-s with the premium system and it sounded awesome

Mike from Scion said it was the drift FR-S. might be a padded cover to throw off the shape

there are two moveable cup holders in the center unit, there is no storage compartment just a big open bin. i didn't find a need for a arm rest because my hand was always on the shifter/steering wheel, but on long drives i find this could be a little tedious.
