"Fast enough, wanna hop in?"

noobcake 07-20-2013 02:10 AM

you can tell them its fast enough to get you in trouble.

edit: just saw k2 had the same response. I must of got it from this sight.

Grishbok 07-20-2013 03:30 AM

"Depends on what you consider fast"

Theres all kinds of fast, theres fast rally cars that lose in the 1/4mile, theres fast drag cars that are slow on the track, theres fast drift cars that turn slow, it all depends on definition.

Agreed. I always like to respond, "well what do you mean?" I love it, because 99% of the time, the person asking this is not an enthusiast, so "fast" = "top speed" to them. Usually if they're asking, it's because they're prejudging me that I know a lot about cars or motorcycles based on what they're seeing me drive/ride. It's fun to watch the expressions on their face as they contemplate whether I honestly don't know what "fast" is or some other possibility.

At this point I usually explain the different kinds of fast.

Unless they're a douche. Then I just stare at them like I need them to explain "fast" to me, just to see what they say.

"She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid."

Best first post ever.

monkeedoo 07-20-2013 05:31 AM

just tell em "not as fast as I'd like"

Bristecom 07-20-2013 05:35 AM

Me: "Wanna see for yourself?"

Girl: "Sure, what time?"

Me: "How about you meet me here tonight at 9?"

Girl: "OK, see you then!"

Mechanic: "How are you gonna pull this off? Your car is slower than just about everything on the road today."

Me:

Or I could just say, "It's fast enough when you aren't in the torque dip." :P

Celica00 07-20-2013 05:43 AM

usually I say something like "not really fast, it was designed to go sideways"

d4wt 07-20-2013 06:07 AM

"not as fast as my ferrari"

or insert some other super car in there somewhere

BRZPDX 07-20-2013 12:06 PM

Fast enough to get you in trouble

tvpr 07-20-2013 12:31 PM

i just say "in the corners"

CTB727 07-20-2013 12:53 PM

I say yes. 99% of the public aren't enthusiastic/knowledgeable about cars. Why's it any of their damn business? Let them think it's fast

This is a good one!

whaap 07-20-2013 01:05 PM

I've never said it but perhaps: There are faster cars out there but I haven't found one that handles better.

bestwheelbase 07-20-2013 01:21 PM

@FnFast you know there are other places to buy sandpaper right? :D

Fluxx 07-21-2013 03:46 PM

I give them the "fast enough to get into trouble" line then explain it's a corner carver, not a muscle car. My dad, who's a muscle car guy, loved it when he visited last week.

I replied "No, it's slow, but it really hooks the road"

Now this isn't the first time I was asked this question and I always answer the same way. What about you guys?

I'd say, "The car is a lot like me... We're small, but we make up for it with speed! We'll also hug the hell out of some tight curves..."

No doubt. I stopped at the local hardware store on my way out of town, then realized I forgot paper, but I wasn't going to stop in the same store again and look like an idiot. And btw the Autozone was next to where I had to pick up my dry cleaning.

Certainly those Autozone and similar stores get a lot of business from those little purchases that you forget until the last minute. They probably do $1M in plastic funnels alone.
