I hope they didn't swap the motor cause they doesn't really look good for a car that is not out yet. I hope Greddy has a prototype of their turbo kit with the stock motor.

Levi 01-09-2012 11:40 AM

I am sure the covered car is the Scion FR-S Driftcar by Greddy. The FR-S by 5Axis will be shown later on some other american tuner salon/show and the TRD version will be shown in a few days in Tokyo. It will be interesting if Greddy made an EJ25 swap of a turbokit for the FA20. I am betting on EJ25 swap, as that engine is already proven and better for a turbo configuration.

Completely agree. I don't care to see another version of this car that I can't have. I have a feeling that the one under the tarp is going to be the white and blue drift car though. Let us see what WE CAN BUY!

KidWonder 01-09-2012 11:57 AM

Guys, the FRS has to offer some differences between the BRZ. The BRZ won't sell if the FRS offers everything the BRZ has for a cheaper price. That's why their won't be a push start in the dash area and premium leather seats on the Frs.

HIDs, Navi and Bluetooth have been confirmed as standard on the BRZ now.

The Scion won't have HIDs standard and I doubt the BeSpoke as standard, but who knows.

In the other thread "another email from Scion" they describe the nav system

Scion is also pleased to announce that the 2013 Scion FR-S will be
the first model to feature the all new Pioneer BeSpoke connected
infotainment audio system, powered by Zypr. The new BeSpoke system
has cool new features that include locating friends on the map on
your audio screen, reading and sending tweets via voice command,
posting on Facebook, and listening to over 200 internet radio
stations. There are so many advanced functions in this new system and
we can't wait for you to try them out when the FR-S goes on sale this
Spring.

That just sounds terrible. There's no reason to be posting on Facebook and Twitter and all that crap while driving. The NTSB is complaining about driving while talking on a cell phone and yet companies keep adding these useless distracting features to vehicles.

That’s true but advertising at a press conference that they did a motor swap for a car that is not even out yet just to put on a turbo kit might hurt them. The key word is “might”. You know some people are going to think.”Hey if I spend 25k-30k on a car and want to boost my car later on, I have to do a motor swap? What the hell” That doesn’t really look good in my eyes. That’s why I hope it’s the FA20 motor with a bolt on turbo kit. Hey even if they rebuild the FA20 motor to handle boost is better than a motor swap. These are my opinions. I guess we have to wait until 3:45pm to find out.

It's actually the opposite. People are going to update facebook and twitter from the road no matter what. This gives them a safe way to do it that is no more distracting than having a conversation with a passenger.

I'm not sure how I didn't notice this before (it's on many other images of the FR-S), and it has probably been talked about/covered, but what is the round hole in the front for? Engine block heater cord convenience?

miata 01-09-2012 12:31 PM

That radio thing should be an option but not a standard.

Conversations are just as dangerous for drivers as texting/talking on the phone. And that is why I completely ignore all of my women and tell them to shut the hell up while I'm behind the wheel.:bellyroll:

Though random food for thought. Have you guys noticed the antennae? Its like the shark fin one rather than the one shown on the website. I'm guessing this is the fully optioned out Scion? Hence the navigation?

Edit, upon closer look... did they just remove the antennae? lol

By "fully optioned" you mean audio head unit, sure... But there is no other options on that FR-S other than maybe that antenna. Actually that antenna could be the GPS receiver, which wouldn't be a normal antenna.

Agreed. I think we've always assumed that different head units would be available as options because that's historically been the way Scion operates.

I wouldn't think it would have a negative impact personally. Since they have already advertised the motor having the same mounts as the Ej for an easy swap.

I got up at 3.00am here cause i thought info wouldve dropped by now... only to fund out its still 3hours and 45 mjns away... so much for 12 hours behind.

Get with the 21st century! LOL! Plus they needed something with a cool factor to say hey this is Scion and we are thinking about you techies!

Its voice controlled but I hear ya. I would rather have proximity with push start and HIDS. I could care less for anything else.

But they could be options in the FR-S. The BRZ will sell because it is a Subaru.

I never said it was going to be standard (push start and HIDS), but the Pioneer Bespoke will be, which is actually kinda nice.

No! I refuse to get sucked in! :bonk: Drive the damn car, the world can wait to hear what you had for lunch until you get to your destination.

A Gomez 01-09-2012 01:16 PM

This time, IF the price information is not released, I hope someone at the press conference will ask for a range, at least. At a very minimum, if it is south or north of $25K.

Techies use Google+

And all this push start talk makes me want to gouge out my eyes.

I am with you on this one. I am not even a driving enthusiast, but more often than not, I do not even turn the radio on when I drive. Not that I am focusing on the driving experience, but I am probably enjoying a time I have all to myself.

wcbjr 01-09-2012 01:23 PM

Why does the hood to bumper cover line suck so much from almost every angle? It's my only gripe about the car. The hood should extend down to the inner tips of the lights.

One more reason why the BRZ is the real enthusiast version of the GT86 and the FR-S is just another Scion.

+1

It does seem like that's the only line on the car that doesn't flow very well.

My tenant/roommate needed an automatic so she could text while she drives.... I'm not kidding. She chose an A4 convertible because it had the best crash test results. I don't understand women.:sigh:
