For me, branding did matter to me. My family all drive Toyota's so we know how dependable their products are (minus the unintended accel fiascos that we were not q part of). If brands didn't matter I would have definitely bought a mustang gt. Maybe even considered a Nissan or miata. But that's just my personal tastes and preferences

Honestly, the more influence Toyota has/had would make me feel even better. Small irony.

"They", did a great job.

Different interior design and HVAC, nav, no fog lights, no spoiler. Other than our cheap HVAC controls, I'm glad we have what we do. It's unique for the American market and like nothing else in the rest of the world.

Scion as a brand carries many different connotations than Toyota. This specific model was made to fit with the Scion theme of single-model simplicity and good pricing. This is my second Scion after my 2005 tC RS1 I owned for 8 years. The tC was another car designed and built solely for the US domestic market, and I have no problem with that. I stopped with the "JDM TYTE!" obsession many years ago. This is a great car at a great value in an exciting branding.

Well said, it's like everyone is embarrassed they are driving a Scion. I don't mind appearance upgrades but it amazes me how many people are swapping emblems to Toyota or debadging it all together. Embrace it for what it is, an awesome $25,000 sports car. I don't understand why so many people are so concerned what emblem they are representing when they are driving around.

TRD_86 03-11-2013 10:45 PM

Scion FRS is a fake tag on this car and it all should be removed when it arrival at the shore here! There is nothing solidly engraved to the body of the car except 1 hard logo on the airbag. This car is belong to Subaru's engineer and Toyota's designer. You guy need to educate all the public and media out there ! Lol :)

Wolfking 03-11-2013 11:19 PM

I made up my mind many years ago to support Scion.(so long as there were no negative reports) I was simply awaiting the arrival of one that suited me...so far the FRS does. Let's see what the future holds. I'll be the first to admit that if Nissan ever pulls their head out, I'm trading my FRS for an S16!

Nope, I truly think if it was toyota I might not have bought it.
I am glad it is Scion. I mean I never looked at a toyota celica either, or anything toyota.

VenomRush 03-12-2013 12:33 AM

i see more subaru stamps than scion

m.box.design 03-12-2013 12:46 AM

we got a low/medium options grade GT86 to keep costs low. the move to make it as a scion was to boost scion sales and keep the brand from tanking. the BRZ was allowed to take up the market where a fully loaded GT86/FRS would have been. we have to give up some amenities, but there's nothing some parts importing and swapping cant solve. if an owner is really unsettled about the trim level of the FRS, i'm sure they'll cover the costs to get it all converted up. :) just like myself, got tired of waiting for foglights so i got a hold of all the parts needed to do it myself! :D

marky 03-12-2013 01:32 AM

put a gt86 on back trunk.. Subaru on rear trunk and scion on front..have a BRZ light on right and frs on left.. see what people think of the car now:bellyroll::iono:

MF_DEUCE 03-12-2013 02:13 AM

why does this even matter?

Gearhd79 03-12-2013 02:28 AM

I am rather glad it was badged as a Scion in the US. It makes the car a bit more unique. EVERY Scion is actually a Toyota in Japan..even the TC is badged as a Toyota Zelas in Japan and Europe. I just wish Americans can get over what freakin tag is on the back of there jeans so to speak. It's why Toyota created a brand just for the kids in the USA than wont buy a Toyota "brand" because mom drives a "Toyota" camry. Its the only reason Scion exists.

True, and it's Toyota's damn fault for not having anything someone other than a mom would want to drive. Now they have that stigma, so even if the 86 and eventually the Supra were to come badged as a "Toyota", they probably wouldn't do well here. It's a shame.

While I will admit that the unavailable options on the Scion as well as the red interior is why I chose Subaru, I won't lie and say that said stigma did not affect my decision. Was it immature, probably, but I never claimed to be otherwise.

Please don't blame "Toyota" in general. If you check Toyota JP car lineup, there are more than "mom would want to drive" cars.

Oh, the "of America" is always implied when I speak ill of anything from the East. Japan can do no wrong in my book!

Next time I'll be more specific.;)

Yeah, I kinda wish, they (not only Toyota, but Honda, Nissan, Subaru & Mazda) will bring their nice option grades in US :(

whtchocla7e 03-12-2013 01:21 PM

I couldn't care less about the badge. And I couldn't care less about what people who know squat about cars think about me or the car. They will get used to the Scion badge sooner or later. If not, I couldn't care less.

Retro86 03-12-2013 01:37 PM

would you change your lexus badge to a toyota if you had one?

If it was first gen IS, GS, & SC, sure why not? In Japan, they DID have Toyota ver on those cars.

i would as well especially the IS :D
Im just trying to see some people who would be ashamed to call it a toyota just because lexus is a luxury brand lol. That goes for the acuras too. Took out that acura badge and put Honda on my teg.

When I lived in Japan from 2003-2008, many Japanese were putting USDM Infiniti, Acura and Lexus badges on their Nissans, Hondas and Toyotas respectively. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some overseas putting Scion badges on their 86. It all depends on which side of the pond you live on.

I may sound like a broken record but since I believe this so strongly, I don't mind repeating myself...

The 86 is one of the most exciting cars to come out of ANYWHERE in a long time and represents everything I LOVE about sports cars all wrapped up in an AFFORDABLE package!

I personally don't care one bit if people want to badge it as a Toyota, Subaru, Scion, Toyobaru, or My Little Pony Manufacturing Company! The car is awesome at what it was built for!

Everyone has their own motivations for buying an 86 but I bought one because of the car and not the badge.

Cost less than the last auto I bought 18 years ago.

What? Me worry?
Good value for a performance vehicle.

You should dispute that ticket and say it clearly isnt yours because you own a Scion (;

Parked at one of my accounts with a nice STI outside of the office. I walked in and asked the guy about it. He asked me if I had a Subaru and I said:

"Yeah, it's the only rwd model available and I picked it at a Toyota dealership and has some other company's badges on it but when I open the hood 'Subaru' is stamped on everything.... Does that count?"

ScionBaru. Subion.

Cylon.

Schizophrenic

I quit,

I also quit.

Just remember the history/design of the car: designed by Toyota, influenced by Toyota sports 800, Toyota 2000gt, AE86, built it Subaru's parent company (owned 20% by Toyota).

Apple products are stamped made in China that doesn't mean China owns everything lol

Belongs to Toyota's President for creating the project, Toyota's engineers for building the working prototype (brakes, auto transmission from ISF, new direct injection system) and convinced Subaru to be part of project, Toyota's designers for creative direction of exterior look, interior simplicity and AE86 brand heritage, Fuji Heavy Metal for factory, Subaru's engineer for tweaking car after Toyota built working prototype, Subaru STi suspension, Subaru's boxer engine, etc.

It's annoying when people say Subaru created the car because it's from a Subaru factory.

1. Wrong, it's built at the Subaru's parent company
2. The prototype was built by Toyota before Subaru even worked on the car that's like Foxconn claiming they invented the iPhone because Made in China is stamped on it hahhahaa

Sent from my iPhone (switching to android soon)

fistpoint 03-15-2013 04:37 AM

The prototype was built based on a Subaru Legacy. I'm pretty sure we're not driving modified Legacy's, are we? Either way, the prototype was still a Subaru which pretty much nullifies the point you were trying to make.
