In the auto I let the logic decide, but in the manual I instinctively follow pretty much the same logic. Much of it depends on the speed and topology. If it's flat and I'm not under acceleration then it's as low as it can be without lugging.
It's one of those intuitions you gain over years of driving and working on cars.
I really don't pay attention to the tach as much as I do feel and sound.

LOL at people who make redlining their car sound like a special occasion. Ya'll are really missing out! :D

Right? Someone i dont know once said "redlining ur car is actually good for it" and ive lived by those words regardless of how true they were or not lol ;)

The right foot is the keeper rpms for the kingdom of my FR-S. It measures them out without discrimination but with equality. From the Lowliest of the Low to Highest of the High, all rpms are accounted for and fairly represented.

The Lowliest of the Low are a small minority, but an easygoing and caring minority which give lovingly and actually increase mpg revenue by crediting the right foot richly. Only issue with the visit is if a crisis arises and they are called upon to act abruptly, they are rather slow to respond.

Next is the Mid-Range majority, where most of the rpm budget is spent by the right foot and sees neither a draining nor surplus of mpg, returns are as expected. Whenever the right foot calls, sometimes they are slow to respond and sometimes they respond quickly, but mostly a satisfactory response.

Finally, there is the Highest of the High; a vocal minority that are extremely pleasant to be with due to the intoxicatingly sonorous nature of the visit. Not only sonorous either, often their is a laser light show at the climax of the performance as well. The time spent with them is most costly however; for them to provide their vocal pleasantries requires much taking from the MPG budget, draining it down rather quickly if too much time is spent in their presence. Though when called upon by the right foot, they immediately and joyously respond to the situation.

Sometimes the right foot spends too many rpms on the highest of the high and must correct the misappropriation with a travel back to the Lowliest of the Low...for the creed of the kingdom must be kept: "All rpms must be accounted for and fairly represented."

Average rpm is about 3k but my car gets redlined multiple times every day. I have a 03 wrx on e85 that gets driven the same way. At 150,xxx miles black stone labs says the engine is wearing like a spring chicken and I can change oil every 7,000 if I want.

Moral of the story is stay up on maintenance and drive the shit out of your car.

RyleyMA61 02-06-2013 12:47 AM

I just drive it?

marky 02-06-2013 12:55 AM

well got like 1300k and i opened her up to 5/6 but no need for redline.. its pretty quick sucker after 4 and a half i feel like a extra kick and it just wants to go.. love this car :burnrubber:
