I know. But the Mustang *used* to be lighter-weight than the Corvette! IMO, it's overweight, but of course the Camaro is MUCH more so.
Still, HUGELY overweight Camaros that are slower in a straight line have been outrunning Mustangs in track comparisons (Ford for some dumb reason provided one of the mags with a GT to compare against a 1LE Camaro, no contest there).

As much as I am a HUGE fan of lighter weight and HATE overweight cars, Camaro vs. Mustang at the track pretty much proves that better suspension and better weight distribution can overcome a 200+ lb. weight disadvantage. The much-slower-in-a-straight-line ZL1 KILLED the GT500 in Car and Driver's Lightning Lap at VIR, by more than 3 seconds. That's telling. The way way WAY slower-in-a-straight-line 1LE Camaro was less than a second slower than the GT500. Unfortunately they didn't test a Boss or GT Mustang this year.

I don't know why people say that all the time. Ford was putting factory-installed IRS in the Mustang Cobra back in 1999.

It may not be my place to say, but whenever i think of people buying a new car for that price i can't help but think, "You could buy an NSX for that." I dunno, i'd rather have something like an NSX than a Mustang GT.

I agree you could also buy a used viper or Maserati even a Ferrari 308. Most if these cars are treated like babies by the first owner if you pick it up with low miles you could have a pretty cool car for still around 35k

I think somewhere along the way, your passionate defense of the vette has led you to misunderstand and be blinded a bit by reality. I am not advocating for or against either, I do not race either a boss or a vette unless its as a favor to a friend. I do not advocate for them, do not prefer them, but given the option I would not under any circumstance, option to race a vette. It is simply not compatible with me. The zr1 is getting there, but it still suffers from the same handling characteristics. I hear this time and time again at the meetings and on the paddock, so please, stop being a magazine racer and open up to the idea that some cars are just not compatible with all drivers and vice versa.

Right, and i think it would be very difficult to be displeased with owning any of those.

Hardly. I'm not a huge Corvette fan, but I do know that it's a better track tool than the Boss. And that its use of leaf springs is not a negative.

Funny, I don't. Any difference in handling feel is more likely to do with its parallel-steer vs. ackerman than with its use of leaf springs. Most of the Corvette pilots I know love the car.

I've only been driven in them at the track as an in-car instructor, haven't piloted one myself, but from the passenger seat I never detected any serous negative traits.

Where did I say that? Personally, a Corvette is WAY down on my list of cars I'd like to track. Too big, too heavy.

But your suggestion that as a track car it's inferior to a Boss Mustang is IMO way off the mark.

Alas! Common ground, i agree completely. Ive done well in them, but definitely not my cup of tea.

I think your money is better served adding a nice Turbo setup and even better tires and suspension. For under 10K that's perfectly doable. If I could do that to my FR-S I would never part ways with it ever. Otherwise wait to see 2014/2015 models bring.
