I have such a boner for this car, My girlfriend must hate me I talk about it so much.

trifenix 11-29-2011 01:19 PM

looking good! I must say the white isn't as appealing as it was with the mk2 lines. Looks less aggressive but that was a given. so we can rebadge from scion frs to toyota 86? :D

That's what we were expecting from a high strung 2L with high compression. Not much you can do about that.

200 hp from a 2 liter direct injection engine at 7000 hp with 17x lb ft. of torque isn't that high strung for a modern engine.... I'm guessing the engine will probably run slow but perfectly safe on regular gas, and premium will give you the 200 hp.

What are you talking about!? The white looks the best! :D The gray looks pretty nice, but white all the way.

Caliban 11-30-2011 03:25 AM

sazu 11-30-2011 04:31 AM

What's up with that. It's always been symmetrical front to back. Now they are suggesting staggered? huh? Must be an error, 225/40-17 would be a taller tire.

Premium gasoline is better for a performance engine and even MPG. It's not that much more expensive, like <$3 dollars per tank(13 gallons). Don't be penny smart, pound foolish about it.

premium gas is not more efficient or more safe. If the engine is designed and tuned to run safely on regular unleaded then there is no reason not to do so unless you're absolutely desperate for that 10 extra hp. It's all conjecture anyway. Nobody knows yet what the recommendation is going ot be in the owner's manual.

BronxBomber13 11-30-2011 06:44 PM

hmm it sounds a lot like the j30 in my accord when its in vtec. Not the most popular honda engine for performance, but it sure sounds good when i push her

On engines with throttle plates (aka not BMW, not VQ37VHR powered, not xZR-FAE cars, not Fiat), if the engine is designed to run premium, you better run premium if you ever want to get past half throttle. On a variable intake duration output controlled engine, you're limited to maybe 80% max torque. Once the engine detects detonation it retards timing, and then your efficiency goes to shit. Accidentally jab the throttle too hard with your foot, problems will happen. I think not risking it is a better idea.

white, asphalt, or argento color.. hmm decisions decisions :)

:bs: and this engine is designed for premium anyway, it's in the staff manual.

Hey, I saw this thread and was happy to read all the excited posts from people. If anybody was interested in the ft86 then they would love to see the new trailer for the Toyota86 "Drive with Passion"

It said "exclusive" so I doubt many people have seen it. Looks awesome though!
