It's Superchargers that whine. Turbo's whistle...:) I will add that an N/A build, perhaps from Cosworth, on this would probably be tits... Would be to loud though for DD. A turbo quiets the exhaust note and still maintains power. I'm thinking GT30R with Open Wastegates on this Boxer would be pretty Yummy...Fueling will need to be on point. |

Cause you don't need a 57mm turbo to make 300whp. Because of the insanely high compression, you also would not need to run a lot of boost. I guess we'll see what is what soon enough though. |
Like I said haha i know a 57mm is beyond 300whp lol, there are many factors though for me. I still want to retain good mpg when cruising =]

1. To me it's nothing, I've built a port injected, open deck motor with 11.5:1 static c/r and 11psi PSI on a supercharger, that was EASY to tune. With DI it'll be easier. I don't need to explain why I think a certain component can't handle it. I'm not trying to make you a believer. 2. Wasn't that I cared, but it was for the 2 member who mentioned Cobb, and I know they wont touch it unless it's factory boosted. I don't have hopes and dreams, I know what is coming, everything I've said in the beginning of the year has been true. My only gripe was that the base Subaru wasn't low output factory turbo to the high output in the STI variant because of the agreement. 3. It's a fact, the R56S MINI outperforms a Civic Si in almost every category. That's a 1.6L small twin-scroll turbo vs a high output K20xx(which you could say is like the FA20). Then add a $795 mod(ALTA/COBBAP) and it will demolish it in all categories, with that mod it also becomes a Lotus hunter, given they are both on the same tire. |
I'll throw a tiny bit of support to the factory turbo guys.
From what I remember, officially all they've said is that it won't launch with a turbo. Secondly, there was official talk about 'this motor was never intended to be turbo'd', but that was about the FB20, when everyone assumed this car would get a modded FB20. It's not. So: A) they could turbo the FA20 at a later date (Yamaha has turbo car experience with the 3SGTE and 1JZGTE). B) they could still put in a different turbo motor at a later date. But I haven't been keeping up with the new WRX/STI motor rumour mill. |
There will be definitely a BRZ Turbo (2.0 FB Engine)!

Subaru hasn't even made a turbo engine on the new design yet. That's at least 2013/2014 for the new WRX. |

Subaru did mention that there was no plan for turbo in this car, that doesn't mean they will not put a turbo in later down the road. I could be wrong though. |

And the WRX/STI is likely getting its own non-FB motor as well. They said no turbo at launch. So the future is open. |

the WRX will have a 2.0 Turbo FB engine as announced at the LA autoshow. |

And since when did enthusiasts require turbos? I don't want a turbo in this car so I guess I'm not an enthusiast. |

Precisely. |

apparently STI is synonymous with turbocharging.

Not that non turbo people are not enthusiasts, but STI fans are turbo people. |

Source? Oh wait... heh... Seriously though, with how butt-hurt Subaru has been acting with its 'We did it all!' press releases, I wouldn't be surprised if even if they use a turbo FA20, they would re-name it back to an FB20. The bore and stroke will show how much the WRX/STI motors relate to the existing FB motors. I'm still curious about the 72mm stroke on existing bores idea that we were floating around long before we had the 86mm X 86mm confirmation. Also some of Moto-P's old posts seem to indicate that the cars are not as conceptually attached to each other as they will appear on release. It could be a time/money-constraint thing. |
I thought that the BRZ was being released with an FA engine...:iono:

I bet STS is gonna jump on both the FR-S & BRZ with their system: http://www.ststurbo.com/ |
A rear mount setup could be interesting, but it tends to be better for higher displacement engines (the smallest engine they make a bolt on kit for is a 3.5 liter v6). Heat and exhaust volume are what spin that turbo, and exhaust gasses have cooled significantly by the time they get to the back of the car. Still, until we actually get to REALLY see how much room is available and where within the engine bay, it's anybodies guess.
I'd like to see somebody make a low pressure small turbo setup for this car with an air to water intercooler. One which places the water reservoir in the trunk, to help offset the added weight up front from the turbo. |

I do not think the BRZ STI will need a turbo. It will need more power that can be achieved by more expensive technologies, ITB, larger displacement,... and lower weight than can be achieved by more exotic materials, CF roof, trunk, hood, roof, doors,....
Who wants a turbo can get a WRX or WRX STI, or swap the WRX/STI turbo/engine on the BRZ/STI. I see it rather this way: BRZ: NA 2.0l, 200 PS, RWD BRZ STI: NA 2.5l, 250 PS, RWD WRX: FI 1.6l, 250 PS, AWD WRX: 2.0l, 300 PS, AWD |

You would rather get lesser gains, AND spend MORE money to get less? We're not discussing whether or not there will be factory turbo option on the FA20, and the whole "if you want a turbo get a wrx", they're completely different kinds of cars, your statement there is lacking logic. The BRZ STI concept is shown to be powered by a NA 2.0l, where you're getting the 2.5l idea from, I have no idea. Beyond that, we don't know if Subaru will even make the STI variant or not. |
Come on guys.
Turbo til it blows up then build low CR + E85 + turbo = perrfect. |
