Early 2013 sometime. :)

We will have one in house to test before release.

I'm excited for this since AEM does make good stuff, Idk about the air box cover though, but if it does function I suppose why not. But this should be good.

gabeg86 12-08-2012 06:34 PM

Had an aem cai on my rsx-s and loved it. Sounded mean too so this is definitely on the top of my list. 2013 needs to come soone! So many products coming out for us

dont worry, they used my BRZ back in earily June during the inital testing for 2 weeks. and this is the first thing they notice that many many of the other brand were running thier baseline with the hood open. which is the cause of their higher performance gain.

they run all their dyno with the hood down.

Used my FRS too- they actually used a few members cars for development cars so i have faith that they have done their research. They def treated me with respect and were transparent about what they were making and doing with my car so they have my respect :)

...unlike the shit experience i had with another company *ahem* magnaflow *ahem*

what? How did you afford your car then? Aem i think is pretty average in cost.

jacjac3 12-10-2012 05:17 PM

I would use it only if they had a tuned map for it.

be6sti 12-10-2012 10:41 PM

I haven't looked into aem in a long time I guess but back when I was 16 the aem v2 for my prelude was like 325$ which is a lot for a 16 year old

All product do claim gaining ++Hp, but true test come out some lost !
If anyone has some real dyno test please show it for some reference that would be great.

SkitterSkotter 12-11-2012 02:36 AM

forget that intake, that rear diffuser is sexy as hell. Is there anymore information on that? If there is one mod that I REALLY desire it would be a diffuser just like that. Any help would be appreciated.

- Clean stock looking heat shield unlike the air raid.
- No ugly, turbulence causing, sound tube opening to have to plug like the Greddy/AFE/Takeda.
- Has a proper seal to the factory intake snorkel unlike the Injen.
- Easier to install than the Perrin unit.
- MAF sensor flange is tucked away from the elements inside the heat shield.
- The filter itself is much larger than the AFE variants.
- AEM dry filter is very convenient. No oiling.
- MAF sensor looks like it's got some engineering behind it's configuration and associated air fins.

Very clean looking unit that answered all my gripes about the other units on the market now. Having said that, i'll still wait for some independent dyno testing to pull the trigger.

P.S. The exhaust looks like it should be a winner as well. It's using the same configuration as the Perrin, Isis, magnaflow, and TRD... the first three which showed gains across the entire rev range in Dsports exhaust shoot out (TRD was not part of the shootout).

I'm pretty sure the picture of the MAF is the picture of a stock MAF piping outlet, NOT the AEM MAF design.

UncleFester 12-12-2012 06:25 PM

AEM posted on their FB page that the intake is available now.

Nice find.. What exactly does this ETI module do besides allow different MAF placement? (found answer see below)

I think the MAF in the AEM intake is on the same spot as the OEM area.

That makes the use of the module more interesting.. From AEM's site..

"These intakes were designed with AEM's ETI module which electronically adjusts the MAF sensor to properly read air density..... "

not very impressive results... also not surprising. once again confirmation that the stock intake is built well. looks like i'll be sticking with my k&n!

Darryljr11 12-13-2012 06:52 PM

That airbox is hideous

sbxjap 12-21-2012 01:10 PM

I like everything but the box design... aFe/Greddy has better design there...

but compared to the other intakes, I like this one the best....

... may just have to paint it to match the car to make it look a lil better...

JoeBoxer 12-21-2012 01:12 PM

Retail on this this one is like $469 but can be had for around the same price as the Greddy, this one is actually a little more expensive.

Correct. :)

New thread here shortly....

The aribox may not be "pretty" but maybe it's just me, I can't see it when on track passing people anyway, Function > Form, as they say.

Want "pretty" there is ARC for that and the price tag goes with it. :brokenheart:

^ Bingo.

and the ARC intake may be pretty... and expensive... but its still just another HOT AIR intake.

L3P47 12-22-2012 07:53 AM

Been waiting for some AEM products to come out. Definitely going to be keeping an eye on this.

JoeBoxer 12-22-2012 08:34 AM

I like the look of the MAF sensor being in the airbox, may have to order one to try out but it's quite expensive for a CAI.

Not sure how well it works in there but it looks clean.

AEM's new Electronically Tuned Intake (ETI) Systems are raising air intake engineering standards once again. With a revolutionary ETI module and fully integrated design, we have eliminated the need to detune or stage intake tube diameter as it crosses the MAF sensor. AEM's air intake system adjusts the sensor electronically to read proper air density instead of using physical tube designs intended to "trick" the MAF reading. The result is bigger horsepower and torque gains.

I got one in my car right now. I'll take a picture of it.

Meanwhile I'm scheduling for a dyno run to see the actual results.

Btw AEM take a minimum of 6 86 samples. 3 frs, 3 brz that I know of. They run their dyno with the hood down and they don't cherry pick their results. The 10 HP gain is a conservative average over many runs.

I agree. I know it's supposed to be about the intake, but I would like to know.
@FT-86 SpeedFactory, you posted the pictures. Do you know.
I looked up 120Racing (OneTwentyRacing) but all I could find was a Facebook page.

I'll see what I can dig up on the rear diffusor, I think we have more photos of it too. I'll check.

Asus 12-24-2012 09:17 PM

Exhaust looks like every other one, intake is whatever unless it comes with a CARB sticker, but that front strut bar. THAT looks amazing, I love that style bar. Any word on pricing or when it will be sold?

2forme 12-24-2012 11:18 PM

Lol no one is questioning the use of a controller to trick the maf signal? And 469$? Good God! Ill await multiple dyno results WITH an AFR readout.

Retail is heavily inflated, it can be had for a lot less. If you don't have Ecutek i think it's a good option but i can't imagine they would work well together.

I was wondering that myself (if they would work together)

FT-86 SpeedFactory 12-25-2012 11:08 AM

No reason why they wouldn't work together.

soros151 12-27-2012 08:34 PM

So can we deduct that the black box is a resistor box that adjusts the signal to their required fuel needs? Most logical explanation. Old School tricks with new cars?

ScionFrsFan 12-27-2012 08:50 PM

Did you guys get alot of snow? A few days before a full review and dyno? Lol

We had no power for 3 Days, The roads literally still resemble country roads.

In fact -> http://www.desmoinesregister.com/app...nclick_check=1

Our FRS cars are not stored in the same building as the dyno unfortunately, and they are on tires that are better suited for warm, dry pavement you would find on a track. ;)

Trust me we want to get on it ASAP. We were set to get more snow today but got lucky and it broke up, so we are planning to do install and drive videos this weekend.

RJ_203 12-27-2012 09:29 PM

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO MAKES THE REAR DIFFUSER!!!ITS ON THE BOTTOM OF OUR OEM ONE! I LIKE..nice n simple

OH SURE.... BLAME IT ON THE SNOW!!! LOSERS!!!

lol, jk.

Interested to see what you guys come up with.

wootwoot 12-27-2012 09:57 PM

Also very interested in the diffuser....

raz0rbladez909 12-27-2012 10:47 PM

Jeremy or Yo let me know if I can help or maybe I can see if Chris is still in town considering he has snow shoes on his brz.
