Anyone see this car at the 'fest?

FRES86 10-07-2012 03:48 PM

You have my alegiance Vortech! I cant wait to give you my money. I've had a Vortech SC on a civic SI before, loved it! Glad to see your making a SC for my FRS!:thanks::happyanim:

ATL BRZ 10-07-2012 06:56 PM

Bump for pics and power numbers and dyno charts!

Having had one of these, do you like the sound? Obviously, that's not the most important factor... and I want to like them, but every time I hear one I wonder if I could deal with the squirrelly sound.

dboz 10-07-2012 10:57 PM

Monster tease thread.

dabocx 10-07-2012 11:03 PM

My question is will it clean up the torque dip. I guess we will have to wait for SEMA for hard numbers.

DRACHENV6 10-07-2012 11:57 PM

ok I'll bite as well. What information was available this weekend? If no pics, then at least some numbers? :)

ATL BRZ 10-08-2012 09:15 AM

Can't believe nobody has posted pics from the event yesterday.

ATL BRZ 10-08-2012 01:26 PM

Bump for info. The event has come and gone. Who went???

vortech makes quality parts, and their kits perform well on domestic vehicles. I like the sound of their SC ktis, but I prefer the overall performance/sound of a turbo.

spitz 10-08-2012 01:57 PM

I'd love an update as well!!

domsawww 10-08-2012 02:06 PM

i went and i didnt really see vortech. i dunno if they had a booth or what but i missed it. lol

Thanks for the reply! I'm really leaning towards supercharging on this car and I know Vortech is of oem quality. I've had roots blowers on two different cars in the past and really loved the whine from them. I don't know anyone with a vortech SC, so I haven't heard one up close. Seems to have a fluctuating whistle at idle on most videos that I'm not sure I'd like. Would you say it's a sound that's better in person?

bakerr6 10-08-2012 02:53 PM

the sound is definately better in person. I can tell you that I do prefer the sound of a kenne bell or whipple charger more (TVS units are nice also). I wouldn't place my money down on a kit, based on sound alone. I would buy based on the way I would plan to use the power.

RAYSSPL 10-08-2012 03:43 PM

can we have pictures please?

Silverdub 10-08-2012 04:16 PM

Yeah, give us at least one picture to fap to...

It wasnt that bad. You dont really hear it in the cabin, at least in my civic SI. But when its in idle, it definetley whistles and whines at you. can mostly be heard from outside the car. But damn they sound so good when you rev up! sounds a lot better and more aggressive than a turbo whistle IMHO :burnrubber:

You're not the only one.

Brian@Vortech 10-08-2012 07:42 PM

Hey guys, there was not a car at the show, but our staff was there walking around giving out flyers with a sneak peek photo. Pretty much every FR-S/BRZ owner at the event should have walked back to their car to find something like this...

For those that didn't get them, or couldn't make it out...here you go!

THEN GIVE ME A TICKET TO GET IN!!!!! :D

In exchange for the ticket, I will give you 1,000 internets.

Although we have both types of compressors at our disposal, a centrifugal supercharger lends itself much better to an engine of this type.

Could you please elaborate on that?

Haha sorry man! No luck!

Coheed 10-09-2012 01:25 AM

The centrifugal works better for higher rpms, and is much more efficient. This means less draw on the engine, and less heat. The compressor has a claimed efficiency of 78% which is much better than a roots style.

A thread teasing us about a teaser

Does this apply to a twin screw as well?
My thoughts are that the engine was more in need of mid range boost than top end.

Camotec 10-09-2012 03:54 AM

+1 to more midrange

Yes, there isn't a twin-screw I know of that operates over 70% efficient.

Building mid range sounds nice, but you will be limiting the top end power production and producing more power in the rev range where the engine is more prone to detonate. The high compression ratio is going to love boost and revs. But you'll definitely need to be conservative in tuning anywhere in the middle. Heat, boost, and high compression ratio don't lend themselves highly for a torque monster.

Mid range bump of 40% can easily be had with a centrifugal charger, but top end gains are going to be a lot bigger. Previous experience with Vortech chargers is that they don't feel laggy. They produce boost quickly in the rev range and increase in power the closer you get to rev limit.

I have a vortech v1 s trim with air to water after cooler on my 93 cobra. The car from factory was rated at 235 horsepower.

The motor is 100 percent stock aside from bigger injectors and in tank fuel pump.

on 93 octane the car made 455 rwhp and 456 rwtq.

I can post my dyno sheet to show where the boost kicks in. with the pulley on there now it makes about 10.5 psi. Custom dyno tune.

I do not feel any leg and car is a monster with 140k miles on it.

I am actually selling the Cobra vortech and all to by my mods for this car.

Vortech really underates there kits on there website I made a lot more power than what is adveratised which I think they do on purpose so you feel more like a satisfied customer when your car makes substanially more power and torque than you thought it was going to.

Let me know if anyone wants to see the dyno sheet and I ll post

Common sales practice. I use the term "under promise and over deliver" on a regular basis and am always surprised at people who haven't heard of this concept, yet have years and years in business or sales.

dabocx 10-09-2012 01:12 PM

If i can get 300-350whp at the wheels im happy.

My friends 93 RX7 was putting that down and it was a blast. Cars are pretty similar in weight as well.
