Need to know if this system drones with/without front and over pipe!

FT-86 SpeedFactory 10-02-2012 09:04 AM

There is a slight drone with this. Nothing that is not manageable IMO. Then again sound preference will change person to person. Our in car video should show any drone issues.

If they make one I bet we are looking at a spring 2013 release on that guy. :(

ProjectD 10-03-2012 01:32 PM

Full System

Just to confirm, this is compatible with Perrin (cat-less) front and Overpipe, or any other brands for that matter?

Very Interested in this....also waiting for updates on UEL/ EL header testing. I would much rather buy all form one source =D

FT-86 SpeedFactory 10-03-2012 02:09 PM

I don't see why it would not work with other brands.

Invidia just let me know they have Catted and Catless Front Pipes coming next week. :)

Is this muffler shipping from you or from a warehouse? Is it in stock? Just wondering because I haven't heard back about my order from Sunday night. Thanks.

FT-86 SpeedFactory 10-03-2012 07:10 PM

They are on their way in and will go right out the door! We only over nighted one from Invidia to us for the testing and videos.

Truck came in today with the motheroad. These ship tomorrow.

Got the PM, thanks for the quick reply. I think I misunderstood a post you made earlier in this thread or another about over nighting one for the videos and waiting on the shipment of the others. Sorry, I thought you already had the actual mufflers in shop. Good to hear they came in. Cannot wait! I'll post some pics of the install. I guess that means I need to wash my car when they come in... hehe.

Is the drone slight to were you can still hold a conversation with someone in the car?

Yep, no need to yell at your passenger while driving. Jeremy and I were holding a conversation just fine talking about the exhaust while driving around.

Cheers!

Very excited about this. Would allow me to keep everything Invidia, well everything except the turbo manifold hehe

JimmyMac 10-05-2012 01:56 AM

Did they make mention of an over pipe as well?

No mention of the over-pipe. Not sure if it will be included with the front pipe or not. We'll know next week though. :party0030:

HELL YES!!!

FT-86 SpeedFactory 10-10-2012 11:07 PM

We have been running this for almost two weeks now. Put over 1000 miles on our car and still enjoy this exhaust. Such a nice piece for the money!

FT-86 SpeedFactory 10-15-2012 11:34 PM

Catted and catless front pipes are out.

Okay so I bought this exhaust and I LOVE IT. The only issue I have is that it took us an hour to put in the silencers. And when we did, it made a rattling noise so we took it out.

Any tips? And any way to make it easier than an hour to put on? I know some may say "Just take out the silencers." But there are some circumstances where I DO want to have them on. =X.

They are a pain that is forsure. Once things heat up and expand they should not rattle anymore. I've only had ours in for a short period. I need to play with them more honestly. I'll toss them on today and leave them on for a couple days and see how they go.

Can you guys make a video for that please? We had to use a toothpick and even a magnet that wasn't strong enough for the screw lol!

Same here but i had no luck putting the silencer on. It just wont go deep enough to line up the holes to bolt it on.

A helpful vid would be really nice

JimmyMac 10-20-2012 10:28 PM

I just installed my N1 and it drones pretty loud at 3000 rpms. Does it quiet down a tad after it's broken in and has a good carbon build up? As for the silencers, I'll have to give that a shot and see if they fit or not. I hope it's simple and easy as my GReddy Ti-C that I had on the Miata.

JimmyMac 10-20-2012 11:22 PM

I think I just lost what I just typed. Oppps Anyways...

It's a NO GO! The silencers do not fit! I think the rivets might be what's holding it back. I wonder if Invidia will offer a fix?

Either way, if you want something now, just hop on EBay and type in muffler silencer. That should bring up some options for you. The I.D. on the tip is just under 4". I got a cheap set coming and I'll see how that does. I'll need them on long trips.

track_warrior 10-21-2012 01:39 AM

Call me a ricer but i love fart cans!! My fav exhaust for the fr-s so far!! My AP might be up for sale soon lol.

Boxer-86 10-23-2012 11:02 PM

My silencers didn't fit either unfortunately. I'm hoping the tone of this exhaust changes a little after its broken in..

JimmyMac 10-23-2012 11:26 PM

I'm still waiting on my ebay silencers to come in. I'll see how those do and post up my results. It's fine when you are on it. In fact I like it, but the drone above 3000 rpms is killing it for me. I can shift out of it below 55-60mph, but above that there's no hope. I don't mind on short trips, but no way in hell for long ones! hehe

Invidia needs to fix their silencers!!

BuBlake 10-25-2012 01:40 PM

My silencers fit, barely. I had to tap them in with a hammer. I ended up removing them though, because the sound wasn't near as good as without them. I believe the exhaust has gotten a little quieter as carbon has built up. Drone is still there, but I don't find it overbearing at all.

Boxer-86 10-25-2012 10:58 PM

Yeah, I might have to buy another exhaust, I think I'm going to go deaf from the drone on my daily commute of 35 miles each way.. I've gotten like 3mpg better after installing the exhaust and a Perrin pulley though.

Cade01 10-25-2012 11:42 PM

Has anyone tried putting sound deadening material in the trunk? I did this in my VW R32 when I put the Magnaflow on it. I used a foil roof patch material from Home Depot(looks kinda like Dynamat), it was less than $15 a roll(double layered it) worked great to break up the drone.

Zadkiel 10-26-2012 01:38 AM

To everyone talking about drone, it does quiet down after breaking in a bit. I've also had no issues with the silencers.

ggpaul 10-26-2012 02:34 AM

I had to get my mechanic to chip off some of the parts on the silencers for it to fit perfectly.

I don't mind the drone, and I think that's because I'm so excited to have a brand new car. I mean, who wouldn't be excited coming from a 1992 beat up toyota 335k camry? lol.

And after driving a thousand miles (came back from Vegas) the drone did decrease.

BoostedWrbBrz 10-26-2012 06:20 AM

Yeah drone is pretty loud on this exhaust. And my silencers won't fit either. Really hope they quiet down a bit

JimmyMac 10-26-2012 09:31 PM

Well the EBay silencers did not help with the drone much. Maybe a few decibels, but that's it. I pulled them back out and will try to mod up the kit silencers. I love how this exhaust sounds getting on it. It's just the drone that kills it. I'll have to see how things are once it breaks in. Or just deal with it until I get a turbo. I might even consider modding the resonator.

You may want to try adding some fatmat to the trunk. I put some in mine and it really cut down the road noise and vibrations. I still have stock exhaust so dont really know if it will fix your problem but it sure did make a huge difference for me on stock setup.
