I know how resize to but I intentionally left it big to preserve the clarity of the lines of the 2nd tone so people can judge for themselves whether it is indeed paint or vinyl. And anytime you paint a 2nd tone on top of stock paint, typically, the workmanship will matter to observant people (some have posted on this thread)... it'll matter A LOT.

Not bad. It's a bit pricey, but I like the wheels.

armythug 09-04-2012 04:38 AM

Hahaha the hate in this thread is strong. :slap: I'm not feeling the mods either but I'm not going to hate. Nice effort by 5AD though. And don't bad-mouth the retro movement. Those retro camaros and mustangs look hot.

I like the look but I'd rather get vinyl panda kit.

BioRage 09-04-2012 12:45 PM

I like how the show the ad as the car slammed, yet irl there's a huge wheel gap.

I'm surprised by the thickness of negativity in this thread. The body kit looks fine to me, although the color-scheme looks a little too weird to me (with the exception of the white/grey). Personally, i'd say it just isn't my thing-- but i'm not really understanding the palpable repulsiveness by some other members.

This is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Majority of the posts are not in favor of it. Why get bent out of shape just b/c we don't like it!?! :iono:

To be honest maybe some of you guys have a taste for older things cause this car is meant to be the 21st century hachi roku. As a young person i like how it looks i like the scheme and the wheels on the white and grey one. I'll admit i dont like the 2nd lining above the painted body kit i think if you just have them in a different color itself it'll look nice just my opinion but, i definitely would not buy this kit and the wheels for more 8k unless i had performance upgrades with it too... I think my favorite kit for this car would be the TRD kit and including that giant wing that hasn't been released yet or i just havent really seen anyone with it!

"Horrible looking aero kit?" Maybe you think the Nur/GTS Options Pack kit is good looking...

The Nur/GTS package IS good looking, minus the giant wing.

Jordo! 09-04-2012 04:54 PM

I like them all, but the price is pretty steep.

frsinpa 09-04-2012 05:08 PM

Not a fan of this paint job - looks like something that you would see on an IROC-Z

I'm not bent out of shape. Just mixing my opinion with my observation.

I think the reason why I don't like it (or rather, why I think the original is so much better) is this:

Look at how the two tone paint actually flows with the boxy body of the AE86, accentuating it's lines:

Vs. the FR-S, which is too rounded and lacks edges for the straight-across lines to work with:

Perhaps if they brought the gray color up to the beltline of the car, and had it flow just underneath the fender garnish up front and line up with the tail light in back, I might, might like it more? Or maybe it's just the oversized wheels that just aren't achieving the "retro" look in my eyes.

Either way, respect to 5AD for putting in the work to make something different. I think it could stand to have some tweaking but it's an interesting concept nonetheless!

Have you ever seen a real Hachi in real life? All the lines flow smoothly and the body is square-ish, so the panda color scheme works. The FR-S flows and has so many curved body elements that a straight pinstripe all around just won't look right (for lack of a better word). And the 5AD kit would look really good, were it not for the ridiculous overhang. It's not even slightly flush with the body. I'd just get a TRD kit on white and add a bit of black vinyl on the roof and at the bottom near the grille as a throwback to the old Hachi.

Craig 09-04-2012 10:18 PM

That might be the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and for 8k? Come on they've gotta be kidding..

xbladex0 09-04-2012 10:18 PM

thats kind of what i mean't... i didn't like the straight line on the FR-S... and i have seen the fujiwara tofu shop hachi roku in NY on the highway. its rare to see old JDM cars where i live in NY

demby123 09-05-2012 05:35 AM

I guess i'm the only one who thinks 17s are over sized in the first place...

MattQ-WP 09-05-2012 05:44 AM

Please tell me I'm not the only person who things the fitment of that kit is horrendous...it actually looks like a cheap backyard job... sorry but if a body kit is WORSE QUALITY than OEM then what's the point exactly?

I think this TRD replica kit does the frs's lines more justice when it comes to two tone. I wonder how it would look on the original body panels with the same color though...
