edit: something else I just considered... Given the choice, I'd gladly pay a certified A&P mechanic with zero experience on this engine than I would any dealer shop. This shit rarely happens with aircraft, and heads roll when it does. If we were truly concerned about safety over litigation, that's how we would treat automotive service.

Quite a few are. Not just car engines either.... for decades.

I haven't done the job on this engine (I've 'glued' together other engines though) and I can't say I think doing a good job removing the old sealant and applying a proper amount on reassembly constitutes a 'difficult' repair.
I respect your opinion, but,

I think I will go with the 'agree to disagree' on this.

I never said that it was difficult. There is a wide gap between easy-to-fuck-up and difficult. If you don't give a shit, it is not difficult to fuck up in many critical places on this engine.

Fucking up gluing other engines only gives you an oily driveway.

And this is where I get back to my original statement.
"changing valve springs can be done by almost anyone"
It's not difficult.

It's not difficult.

You also said "It's not easy to screw up." That's the assertion with which I take issue.

...and it's a BIG one. If you re-read my statements, I'm clearly making the distinction from my first response.

Let's put it another way, the consequences of sloppy work on this engine can be catastrophic where, on a more conventional one-piece block, owners would just have to take it back for some dumb do-over. Like I said, the worst would most likely be having to fix a leaky valve cover gasket.

It's an important point and gets to why I've suffered witnessing all this unnecessary carnage.
