People (not me) spend HOURS clay-barring, waxing, ceramic-coating. If you have a nice set of open wheels, I imagine it could be a bummer to see rusty disks behind them. It obviously does come off in a matter of seconds when driving, but still.

If that's something that really bothers the OP then install carbon-ceramic brakes.

Thanks for understanding. :-)

You actually misunderstood my point. Thanks anyway thou

REALLY! We should have stuck with the drum brakes. We couldn't see the rusty drums and didn't even try to see the thickness of the shoes.

We didn't worry about till we heard the brakes squealing or the car wouldn't stop.

Could be custom built. Make a custom brake hat that fits the twins and find a comparable sized rotor/friction ring. I'm sure something could be found close to the same size for say, a Lotus. It's only like a $10k+ solution for.........aesthetic surface corrosion. Sounds like a fun DIY for the OP to pioneer :D

If you don't want rust on rotors on a new car, buy a high-end car like Audi where they have covers on the wheels for transporting to/from car transports.

Rust will develop on rotors anytime you have water on it and it is allowed to dry naturally (i.e. rotors are cold). If you don't want rust on your rotors, drive your car. It's as simple as that.

As for Apple, you're comparing anodized aluminum in plastic shrink wrap to exposed cast iron. A simple lesson in oxidation should suffice.

This is obviously your first car. If the rotors are rusty it only proves on thing. The rotors got wet (rain, dew, car wash, sprinklers) and then dried and hasn’t moved since.

I always enjoy the extra bite the pads have at the end of the driveway after a wash. Hahaha

I was thinking the same thing. I like it too. I open the windows to enjoy the first breaking sounds. And I kind of feel it in the pedal and that's cool.

As others have said, nothing to worry about.

My Rusty brake rotor story

Seems even a large dealer certified Mech can’t tell the surface rust from severe corrosion…

Car was bought mid April 2019 had come in off the boat to dealer’s lot end of March…

I just drove it cross country in August and needed a 20k KM service. My brother-in-law had washed/scraped off the bugs and whatnot that had accumulated on such a journey for me the night before so car sat wet overnight.

Got serviced at a Big Subaru dealer in Vancouver following morning where he gets his Forester serviced. When I picked it up Service rep was quite concerned about the rotor integrity as his tech had noted as per my invoice “Looks like car has been sitting for a while and had created pad transfer on all rotors we have cleaned as best we could possible noise vibration in future (customer to monitor)

Thankfully I finally made it back home without and problems, the PP brakes don’t shake at all and still do a nice short metallic squeak coming to a slow stop after an energetic ride so all is good!

Back at my local dealer for the 30k Km service, no mention of ANY found issues. Side note: My dash cam recorded some swearwords as it got disconnected as the car rolled into the service bay… Always an adventure bringing a perfectly operating vehicle to a dealer…

Could be worse. You could spend almost $100k on a fancy electric car and get something that looks like a rusty roof.

No kidding? I assumed they were but hadn't actually looked.

But yeah, half the price of the car for a set of brakes is a bit much.

i haven't found a specifically-designated aftermarket offering(as someone else said, it could be possible to piece together a set off a similar vehicle). i've been pricing out various bbk's, and wanted to entertain the possibility :)

I can't believe the level of arrogance in some of these replies, someone new to this car asks a silly question and half of you are beating your chest about how much smarter you are. Get over yourselves, laugh it off and move on, the smartass replies don't help anyone.

Well aren't you high and mighty. I'll beat my chest whenever I so please.

Anyone with half a brain should be able to google "Why are my rotors rusty?" "Why do rotors rust" "Washed my car and rotors rusted", instead of coming to a forum asking a shit for brains question, and assuming that new cars are impervious to rust.

Did you read my question in first place? Pretty sure you have a full brain compare to me, but unfortunately even you with a full brain did not understand what is the question I was asked for.
