I get what OP refers to.

When I have a pick up truck or large SUV with some of the bright headlight systems behind me, the rear view mirror shoots the rays right into the old retinas.

I adjusted the mirror to the right so that I can see a bit more than half of the rear window. Reflections way diminished.

And a bonus, the blind spot is not as bad. One still needs to be sure the outside mirrors are spread out enough. But this helps.

There. Thread over.

So you mean to tell me that you're now using your rearview mirror as a blind spot mirror. Such innovation.

I'm frustrated with the mirror. It doesn't work. Has anyone replaced it with an traditional mirror that has a knob?

I have the frameless mirror (92039CA001) coming in a few days to replace my homelink mirror. I'll post here when I swap it.

Your car already has a big enough knob in it, adding another wont fix anything. Figure it out.

My Series.Blue came with a "dumb," un-powered frameless mirror with the physical adjuster-dimmer tab thing. I replaced it with a "smart," powered, frameless, Homelink-enabled, auto-dimming mirror and haven't looked back! Or, rather, I do look back, but now I'm not blinded anymore! The auto-dimming function works great for me.

It also works great for most people, because most vehicles these days have them. The mechanical, "tab-style" mirror won't be around much longer.

Ok, so the new fangled power mirror works like crap?
Why would they piss R&D money on something that is WORSE?

Confirmation of a garbage feature that is WORSE than a simple analog switch.

Why are you replacing this bloated POS mirror?
Because of getting blinded, or something else?

Reasons why it is worse:

- GrantedTaken has overly-sensitive eyes.

Reasons why it is better:

- No interaction required on the part of the user.
- Variable dimming levels based on ambient light and headlight brightness.
- Won't accidentally un-adjust your mirror if you press the tab too hard.

While I agree that manual mirrors do tend to dim MORE, I would argue that they dim TOO much, as if they are adjusted to work on people who forgot to turn off their brights, which is something that does happen, but is not THAT common. The rest of the time, I actually prefer my auto-dimming mirror, which takes the excess brightness away from the vast majority of headlights, while also allowing me to see other stuff. I also like that it varies its dimming based on how bright it is out, and how bright the lights behind me are, changing from clear to full dim, to anything in between within a few seconds as I drive, ensuring I always have a good view behind me.

I don't use the Homelink functions, the mirror rattles constantly and the dimming isn't enough to combat all the SUVs and lifted trucks here that have their own personal suns for headlights.

I’m confused that you guys are having trouble with the auto dimmer power mirrors. Some good tint + the auto dim should provide plenty of glare reduction, without affecting rear visibility at all. [emoji3166]

I wouldn’t say it’s less effective than the manual flip down kind. And you don’t get the weird distortion effect with an auto dimming mirror. It’s a perk of the BRZ to get more features. Just enjoy your car, it’s one of the best out there. [emoji106]

But then they wouldn't have anything to whine about to their daddies.

I don't think my mirror actually works. When I drive in the dark, I'm going to toggle the power. Your saying I should see a difference..

It might be more obvious during the day to cover the front facing (toward the windshield) photosensor with your finger or a piece of black tape. The mirror should gradually darken during the next minute or so if it's working.

Seriously, if you are so unhappy with the design of this automobile, you might consider selling it and buying something that is more suited to your design criteria. Perhaps a Toyota Camry? It's pretty well designed, and very popular....
