1 lug the engine. Low rpm, give it more gas. Not a lot of gas in fact. Just try to accelerate at low rpm
2 engine brake at higher rpm. Around 3500 or more
3 a less than perfect shift

Is this a common symptom for TOB failure? My car has this issue from day one. And it's just a noise issue. Car drives fine.

Get in your car no shoes (trust me), running or off, press down on clutch pedal all the way, then press down harder. If there is a crunchy feeling, see your nearest dealer for service.

The "snort" or "honk" is fine and nothing to worry about.

But...

"Marble shaking" is a whole different matter and you need to change that TOB. SOON!

Don't wait.

I’ve had my FRS brand new since 2014 and at 70k miles. No major issues, just basic maintenance. My car has been at the shop for a new vinyl wrap for about 2 weeks, and I’m ITCHING TO DRIVE IT. I’ve never missed driving a car so much before. Just keep in mind that it’s slow in straight ways but when you take it to the canyon and track it’s just pure joy

I'm at 190000 kms. Clutch throw out bearing is the only thing I have had go wrong. I even delayed the spark plug change to 175000kms. Never missed a beat. Nothing broken. Drives like new.
