Someone like tcoat who has a stock motor and drives tons of freeway miles is going to have very different results than a guy like me who only drives the car as a weekend toy, and installed a big blower under the hood that blows E85 thru the motor faster than Johnny Cash can fuck a goose. |
I currently commute 45 miles each way on freeways or well-maintained state highways, and there are lots of long downhill sections. '13 BRZ auto, everything stock. I'm averaging 36.4mpg in those conditions over the last 6 months.
Just for contrast, I absolutely do drive it like a Prius while commuting. (In fact, I sometimes get better mileage than my wife's Prius in her much-less-helpful driving conditions). One of the reasons I bought a BRZ is that it's fun to drive even with MPG in mind. I save the "spirited driving" for the track and canyon driving. FWIW, acceleration rates for me are dictated by traffic flow, not by my preference to be fast or slow. Over 70k miles in 5+ years and a variety of commuting conditions, I've averaged 30.3mpg. |

I drive city 95% of the time with stop and go traffic. average mpg came out to be between 26-28 and that's me being drive somewhat toughly.

It is completely impossible if you live in an urban center to drive it ball out all of the time. Well not unless you don't mind tickets and accidents. |
I don't have a fancy fuelly thing set up to record it like i have seen on others profiles...
I have a 75 mile round trip commute plus I have taken two 1,000+ mile road trips. That being said, I try to drive it gingerly when I can but those off-ramps mhm.. I have 2 numbers I have noticed on Subaru's 0w20 oil and Schaeffer's 0w20 Oil I hit around 30 However, on Schaeffer's 5w30 I get around 32. I hit 37.5 on my 1400 mile road trip to yellowstone and the tetons in WY Has anyone else noticed a difference in oil weights with MPG? |

Need to do more testing though Hard to have consistency between oil changes though, plus I'm getting it ready for track and autocross this year so i won't be able to get "accurate" data for a little while |

FRS- intake, exhaust, tune etc.... All that has made my MPG worse over time. My MPG read out in the display is a filthy dirty liar and says 29ish MPG. There's lies, damn lies and the MPG read out on your car.
I do the calculation by hand and get at best 27, at worst 25. On a recent trip to TN, on open highway all the way on a full tank I did get over 30- going 65 (cops everywhere in GA) with few stops. I got a little under 25 in the mountains of TN having fun on the Tail and cruising around Half highway from 60-90 (long bridge on my commute) and half city/stop and go. Yeah I do have a tendency to DILYSI at times. |

Just managed 28.83 MPG on my last fill up.
|
28.7 since i bought the car 6 months ago. On the freeway i use cruise control a lot, but on surface streets i tend to gun it and have fun. I usually get up near redline at least once or twice for every tank of gas and hit at least 5k every time i drive unless its a short trip. gas mileage is actually probably slightly better than stated since i have 18" rims which throws off the speedo/odo a bit.

I know everyone hates dragging these threads back up but after two tanks of a my normal commute getting 27.5mpg I finally did a long motorway trip with the cruise set at 75mph for the majority of the time, I was pretty astonished to get 33.3mpg.
Even better, I think if you consumed the entire tank on an interstate I can now see 34-35mpg being a very real possibility! |
