Just a quick question for whom ever can answer. Why does everyone seem to be removing this piece? does it add some performance to the car with out the sound box? Or is it just because they just don't like how it clutters the engine bay?

From what I have seen, there is no proof that it adds or removes any power or performance. Mainly just to clean up the engine bay AND because it's kind of stupid to "manufacture" engine noise and pump it into the cab.. alot of people want to hear their engine and exhaust but dont want it to be fake like that.

There is some high end BMW or Merc out there that blocks out so much outside noise that the audio system simulates engine and exhaust noise through the speakers.. pretty dumb.

Lol, thanks

This obviously messes with warranty right? I'm so interested in doing this!

KRAZYK 07-31-2012 04:26 PM

^^^

It could but you can easily put the stock stuff back on if you ever find the need to take it into the dealership.

True. I think I'm going to do this. Is there any vids of this up that shows the sound? I would really like that before I go and buy the stuff for this.

xcelir8brz 07-31-2012 05:12 PM

We'll try to capture videos this upcoming weekend. We have a bone-stock FR-S that we can try this on. Note: We're going beyond just the intake tube delete and going with the open air system with heatshield and filter in-airbox.

Style 07-31-2012 11:16 PM

Just bought the drop in HKS filter...where do I begin with this? Eventually I will upgrade to a real one but this will have to do since funds are low.

xcelir8brz 07-31-2012 11:42 PM

Spent a few hours after work today laboriously working on this project. I received all the raw materials to make both versions of stock intake tube rubber delete as well as the open air intake system. I have made enough tubes for this weekend's R&D between MY BRZ as well as the twin FR-S. I currently have two short pipes for stock intake tube rubber delete and two long pipes for the open air intake system available as extra. I put extra care into these pipes as I have a feeling this is the last limited run I'll be doing this for some time. PM me if you have any questions. Thanks.

Yes, today's hard work on my behalf will make this weekend a breeze. And, we'll have a lot of fun!

TBBandit 08-01-2012 01:20 AM

I guess the real question is.. when i get exhaust, will the twins race?

Scooby South 08-01-2012 01:23 AM

Like.... interested in the tube (Already have the elbow and Straight coupling.. LMK

Bill

TBBandit 08-01-2012 01:23 AM

ill talk to my guy tomorrow.. maybe if he is in a good mood we can get all the pipes painted before the weekend.. that might be wishful thinking tho

TBBandit 08-01-2012 01:24 AM

You think High gloss black will work? Or keep the textured look?

PM'd you.

And what's the difference of this and the 'real one'. More money for equal or less power?

That would be great!

Maybe Glossy Black and one with White Pearl?

xcelir8brz 08-01-2012 06:01 PM

Prolly going to do this tonight (paint later)...

Open Air System Intake Parts List:

1-My Extended Custom Finished Pipe w/Grommet
1-Spectre 8791 Black 3" Low Profile 90° Elbow Boot with 2.5" Insert and Band Clamps
1-Spectre 8771 Black Intake Tube Coupler and Band Clamps
1-Spectre 9405 Air Flow Sensor Mount Tube
1-You Pick K&N Air Filter and Custom Bracket

xcelir8brz 08-01-2012 09:28 PM

Did some painting tonight. Decided to paint prior to install. What the heck!

Using flat black high temp paint. Provides smooth stock finish and makes the pipe look more stock.

Enjoy!

One short pipe remaining.

Two long pipes remaining.

This was a limited run.

PM with questions.

TBBandit 08-02-2012 02:56 PM

Maf came today ...so we r on for Saturday

xcelir8brz 08-02-2012 11:03 PM

Good evening everyone.

So I decided that this will be my first and last limited run of making the short stock intake tube delete as well as long tube for cold air intake system. Summer is ending and my availability is limited with work, family, etc. Sorry.

On a happier note, I painted tonight. Actually quite a bit! I used a few different colors with a few different textures. And bottom line, they all turned out great and are very durable. I'm pleased.

I have a couple of colors and configurations set aside for my, as well as TBBandit's R&D cycles this weekend.

Though, I do have a few available to do with whatever and share with you. I have one short black texture and one long black texture both painted. I also have one short and one long both unpainted (either or can be painted per request).

Take a look and let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for the inspiration!

Brian

I am torn between the reds..but they all look good.

xcelir8brz 08-03-2012 05:42 PM

The darker red tube was actually made with a metallic blue base coat and overlaying red on top of that. Looks kind of like the original AEM 'Red' CAI's.

Ready for tomorrow? I am. Excited to get the twins all CAI'd up. And I want to see the look on your face when you hear the intake. It sounds extremely mean and wicked. And honestly, the airbox/heatshield setup we will employ looks really good and extremely functional. Total cost of all DIY parts is near half the price of other systems out there. Even the little guy(s) win.

xcelir8brz 08-03-2012 05:44 PM

What filter did you end up getting?

xcelir8brz 08-03-2012 05:44 PM

I might (time barring) get a jump on my vehicle tonight. At least to fab out some new brackets.
