Could you tell me kind of pins shown in photograph number 16 of http://theattack.rallysportdirect.co.../#comment-4288.
"Once the screws are out, the lower panel should pop out with a bit of force. Remember to disconnect the harnesses going to the headlight level switch and cluster dim switch."
I want to search harness jumper pins in order to make the most secure connection. Thank you

Anyone know the size of the Torx socket in galley plug oil pressure port?

If I remember correctly, mine was a number 8 hex bit (not a Torx, assuming you're talking about the galley plug on the top of block).

surfdontswim 03-14-2016 02:10 PM

Yeah I was referring to the galley plug on the top of the block. I didn't look at it that closely yet but I thought I read somewhere, at one point, that it was a Torx drive. Thanks for replying back and your help!

Figured I'd share.
I was running 0w20 since I got the car and installed my pressure gauge around 50k miles. Then I switched to 5w30 (51k miles) just this weekend. I have some few data I can share.

Mobile 1 0w20
No Oil Cooler and Stock
Perrin Oil Pressure Sensor is located at the oil galley plug between the AC and Intake
Temp is monitored through my OFT which is reading from OEM Temp Sensor
Located in Michigan

132psi (PEAK) - Cold Start - Average of 30F-45F
35 psi - 180F
30 psi - 190F
7 psi - 200F
2-5 psi - 210F

After Warmed Up - Average of 205F Oil Temp
20 psi - 1k RPM
25-30 psi - 2k RPM
30-35 psi - 3k RPM
35-40 psi - 4k RPM
40-45 psi - 5k RPM
45-50 psi - 6k RPM
50-60 psi - 7k RPM

Typically runs 5-10 psi lower than the rpm instead of +10psi/1000rpm.

Here is my data after switching to 5w30

Mobile 1 5w30
No Oil Cooler and Stock
Perrin Oil Pressure Sensor is located at the oil galley plug between the AC and Intake
Temp is monitored through my OFT which is reading from OEM Temp Sensor
Located in Michigan

135psi (PEAK) - Cold Start - Average of 45F-50F (warmer days)
40 psi - 180F
35 psi - 190F
10 psi - 200F
5-10 psi - 210F

After Warmed Up - Average of 205F Oil Temp
25 psi - 1k RPM
35-40 psi - 2k RPM
40-45 psi - 3k RPM
50-55 psi - 4k RPM
55-60 psi - 5k RPM
65-70 psi - 6k RPM
70-80 psi - 7k RPM

Pressure to RPM ratio is a lot better. I did few pulls with them close to 220F and at 7k it peaked at 82PSI which is I am happy with.
Oil temp seem to reach higher (up to 220) at normal driving with 5w30 but I think its because it is getting warmer and not because of the oil. 0w20 tops 215F normal driving with few pulls.

I will be installing a PERRIN Oil Cooler before Gridlife Event in Gingerman in June. Will be hotter ambient temps and will see if I can get someone to make note of the pressures after few sessions.

Sure thing. There will be a couple of Michigan86 members there tracking and car show.

Looking at your build, I hope my friend and I can finish his KSwapped FRS hehe.

Gopherboy6956 05-01-2017 03:27 PM

So nobody has had issues removing the stock oil pressure switch?

If so, i'll just use that one for my gauge's pressure switch, and the top galley plug for the temp.

Anyone use a hose to relocate the pressure switch? Innovate told me it was a good idea to it doesn't put stress on the joints bouncing around.

Brz_racer 06-01-2017 02:52 AM

I'll be installing an oil pressure and oil temp gauge from the stock locations under the oil filter, just going to remove the stock sensor units and install the new sending units that come with the gauges. Like someone said earlier the stock oil pressure is 1/8 BSPT, I imagine the oil temp threading is the same. I got 2 1/8 BSPT male to 1/8 NPT female for the new sending units. As soon as I am done I will report back and try and post pictures. It's possible a CEL may come on from removing the oil temp plug as I think it's 4 wires not just the 1 like the pressure sensor. If i get a light I'll just tap temp from the plug on top of the block

Kayysonie 06-01-2017 11:33 AM

So I after posting my oil pressures daily driving the car with 5w30 I had the chance to run a TNIA event back in May at Gingerman. Kind of a shakedown and practice for Gridlife. The post is here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=45

I closely monitored my oil pressure and oil temp at the track after running 3 20 minute session

The ambient temp outside was between 60 to 65 and it was raining.

Still no oil cooler installed.

I cannot go to detail as I was focusing on the driving but I had my oil pressure and oil temp set to go off at a certain threshold.

<35psi and >230F

The worst temp I got was 250F and my Oil pressure stayed around 35 to 40psi up to 7K

Obviously that is not ideal as you want +10 psi per 1000 RPM. So 7k shouldve been 80psi. It wont get there ever even at 220F

40 PSI is still okay IMO but you really need an oil cooler to drop those temp down. I had to cool down every other two laps.

Gopherboy6956 06-01-2017 06:34 PM

Ugh i just have to get this done - Been putting off, have a track day in about 2 weeks... I really don't want to but i Might just buy one of the sandwich plates that work with my innovative gauge so i don't have to remove the stock sensor.

banane63 06-02-2017 05:28 AM

If I remember normal pressure is 70PSI at 7000 in the mechanical book.

Why not Use the galley plug next to the AC condenser?

I agree, but that only really solves the temp sensor spot - Still have to find a spot for the pressure sensor.

This post is super helpful, btw

You have a Innovate Oil Temp/Pressure sensor right? The oil temp sensor will not fit on the oil Galley Plug. The sensor tip is too big. You have to find an adaptor with the big hole for it which I have tried and hard to find.

The Temp Sensor should go to an oil sandwich plate.

The oil pressure sender is too big to fit in the galley plug. You can use the stock switch. I recommend to get a Braided Pressure guage line like this link:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Braide...-Kit,4147.html

Just make sure you have the right fittings.

I sold my Innovate Guage and got a Perrin. I dont need the temp as I read it from my OFT using OBDII.

Gopherboy6956 06-05-2017 11:31 AM

I have ordered some things now - and from a friend of mine who has this currently installed

Oil Temp sensor in top galley with a galley plug - seems to fit just fine
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...pscmcidont.jpg

Pressure sensor with an extended line in stock location (Sounds like no negative effects)
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...psy2vpghsj.jpg

Again - I'm not saying that I know for a fact that this works, but I will find out real quick.

I believe this is a GREAT location for the Oil Temp gauge sensor.

Thoughts anyone? @PrimeMotoring @Rev Works @Dave-ROR @P&L Motorsports @Pure Automotive

how did you install your oil temp gauge? apparently i cant see it. i have the innovate oil temp and pressure gauge.

Gopherboy6956 08-02-2017 05:41 PM

Yea, Photobucket took a shit on everyone and disabled 3rd party hosting on all accounts unless you pay - get this - $40 a month. Fuuuuuuuuuuck No.

DaveB.inVa 08-05-2017 04:01 AM

Photobucket is sucking a lot!

I have my oil temp gauge in an oil filter sandwich plate. It's going to be very near the pan temp as it's pumped straight from there and doesn't go through a cooler. I've used this method on 3-4 different vehicles.

wrh3 08-09-2017 03:39 PM

I tried a few different things but ended up using a sandwich plate re-tapped for the senders for my gauge, after some months I think this is the best solution. Some pics here: www.billswebspace.com/FRSRS2.html

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I wanted to add my info here as well. As Bill did, I used a TRD sandwich plate for the Defi pressure gauge and used a remote sender. Extremely easy, clean install.
I would recommend for anyone already using the gallery port as a turbo oil feed.
Just make sure to use teflon tape on the fittings being threaded into the ports on the adapter plate
Adding photos for future generations to see.

Remote sender comes from sandwich plate and goes under the intake manifold. I attached the pressure sensor to a tab on the back of the intake manifold, and have the wiring routed back to the driver's side, behind the brake booster, through the grommet in the firewall to the driver's side footwell.

Shameless plug here, but we carry a bunch of sender adapters for pressure and temp. The nice thing about using an adapter is that is adds the minimal amount of additional potential leak points vs remote or sandwich adapters.

Just a pic for reference, we make these in other sizes too...

does anyone make a Bluetooth obd2 compatible gauge for either oil temp or pressure?

You can view/log oil temp through any obd2 device that can read PIDs, but no pressure. I imagine bluetooth isn't really reliable enough yet to be piped through the firewall and be stable enough for popular companies to jump on board with it

yes Harry’s lap timer you can. It’s just a drag that you can’t see it unless you go out of the timer and into the Real-time Analysis mode.

Apologies for the bump...

I didn't see it on your website, but any chance you make/have:

1/8 PT Male to 1/8 NPT Female (for water temp sensor for an aftermarket filler neck);

I am not sure what the thread for the stock oil pressure port is (where the dummy switch is), but whatever that is Male to M10x1 Female.

If you have the above adapters (in stainless) please let me know, will buy tomorrow!

We used to make 1/8 PT to 1/8 NPT Adapters (and vice versa), but no one bought them. The one small batch we made took over 5 years to sell off :(

The OEM port is 1/8PT

M10 x 1.0 is a very odd sensor thread. What brand?

Stack gauges.
Oil temp is 1/8 NPT, I bought the M18x1.5 adapter from you.
Water neck (Greddy) is 1/8 PT, the Stack sensor is 1/8 NPT.
Oil Pressure sensor is M10x1.

From STACK website:

ST3501 - Oil Pressure 0-7 bar (M10x1)

ST3509 - Oil Temperature 40-140°C (1/8NPT)

ST3507 - Water Temperature 40-120°C (1/8NPT)

I think my only option is to contact a machine shop if I want them in stainless.
