Maybe it's the lighting but it looks very black

Beyer Subaru 10-24-2012 05:29 PM

Love the STi goodness!! Keep up the good work fellas!!

ChristosG 10-24-2012 05:55 PM

Switchlanez your car looks amazing. They need to make a FR-S lip like that because I want it now. I'm assuming the sides skirts would fit my car, just need to find a solution for the front. And those wheels are awesome too. A lot of STi stuff I want to add to my FR-S. TRD needs to step it up.

yes, I have seen them in other sizes/colors, just not 17/Gunmetal. They are a little dull, they don't 'shout', which is what I wanted. I wanted a dark color, but think black looks weird - as it is darker than the tire.

As nice as switchlanez' car looks, I do have to agree with this. LOVE the gunmetal. Great choice

Mine are also 17" and the 18.4 lbs. figure is approximate based on subtracting the weight of the package (without the wheel) from the total package weight listed on my shipping invoice. I still want to get the weight of the wheel alone if no one else does it first. Mine don't turn out great in most pics I take (black hides the spoke detail) but with the right lighting and a good photographer, they can look better than in person. :p

yes, little HDR to help bring them out in the shadow - good eyes. But they really do look about like that - just not as defined/bright. I think the photo still gives a good idea what they really do look like.
I picked the GM as, yes, silver is common, and b) I think silver draws the eyes a bit too much, I wanted attention firstly on the car, then on the wheels.

I like the black on yours, especially whiting the branding, really looks great. But still prefer the GM :-)

Is yours dropped any? which springs/shocks?

I'm happy for the moment, but would like to drop it a half on some 'girlfriend' class springs/coilovers, and do the exhaust. I'd go JDM STi if I can, but don't know much about the specs on the JDM springs.

switchlanez 10-25-2012 10:45 AM

^Yeah, I'm on STI springs and stock shocks.

stout90 10-25-2012 07:47 PM

damn that looks killer!

xxscaxx 10-25-2012 08:17 PM

I would really love to see those STi aero pieces painted, lol.

DarrenDriven 10-26-2012 07:49 PM

@G4mb17 - combined your topic with the older topic about this wheel in the same spec. I like the gunmetal a little better than the black, though.

Mrqb22 10-29-2012 01:41 PM

Where can you order the gunmetal 17 wheels from? Did they come wiht the STI center cap? Love the pictures up in the moutain I can you tell me where you got your set up from

chanomatik 10-29-2012 02:01 PM

Are you also using the 225/45-17, looks to me it's one size larger.:D

ICantAffordAnLFA 10-30-2012 03:50 AM

Hey switchlanez, your car looks great.

When did you get your STI springs as I'm currently waiting on some and I'm told they are not available.

Also how do they ride? Firmness, body roll

Still waiting for my STI splitter too :(

Thanks, I ordered my springs shortly after they were released and got them within 2 weeks after ordering. Ride quality is almost identical to stock, maybe a little firmer since stroke travel is shorter but that might be a placebo effect as it's hard for me to tell. It handles more confidently but that might be due to my wider rubber. Sorry I can't give you any straight answers. >< Took a while for the drop to settle to the height you see in the recent pictures... that's after 1.5 months of running on them and I'm very content with the height now unlike the initial few weeks after I installed them.

icemanbrz 10-30-2012 11:16 PM

Thanks! I am going with the 18 inch version so I will be using 225/40-18(the 18 inch version is also 7.5J), which is also one size wider but for a daily drive is perfect.:D:D

Those would look great on a grey FRS or BRZ

Exactly. When you can find 8000 ton forged options for the same price, it's not very tempting.

chanomatik 12-19-2012 06:26 PM

This is interesting. From sti.jp's BRZ STI catalog:

Quote:

*18-inch wheels are fitted with set size (92Y) XL Pilot Super Sport 225/40ZR18 Michelin made. At STI, we recommend installing it with the same tire. (Front 240kPa air pressure specified, Rear 240kPa)

Those are nice tires.

chanomatik 12-20-2012 02:24 AM

I know. I like those tires. I just thought it interesting that STI made specific mention of them.

18s look better. 17s are lighter.

(All personal preference): 17" are lighter and I think look better with meatier sidewall and a moderate drop. The tires start looking like rubber bands in 18" but might look better if you're dropped more (for reference). In 18" form, the 15 spokes start looking too long and fragile for being rally-inspired (which is what all STI wheels are). 10 spokes would look better in 18" like the wheels from the Forester STI.

STI has been using the 17" model on stock Michelin HP Primacy tires in all their online marketing material so far.

Wow these are some of the best looking 17's I've seen on these cars. Definitely super sweet for BRZ guys.

DSOmegaX 03-15-2013 09:14 PM

Well I'm one STi springs as well...it looks like the test car is on their coil overs though

ayau 03-15-2013 09:36 PM

Even though 17" STI wheels are lighter than the 18", there are much better options out there if weight is a priority for you.

chanomatik 03-15-2013 10:59 PM

The ASGA Spirit BRZ STI-replica wheels are 18x8 +40 and weigh 21 pounds. Kinda hard to beat that.

switchlanez 03-16-2013 03:12 AM

^That is a good deal.

Here are 18s with the lower coilover suspension. Something about the wheels seem out of proportion to me. I see a lot of car and wheel face but not enough rubber. They're like rally wheels with some tire missing. :iono:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1351699171

Same goes for the picture from this thread's OP (which was my mistake since they're 18", not 17"):

Or it could be I'm just too used to seeing my 17s. :bonk:
