I replaced my NB (non-MSM) with a BRZ.

My impressions are: the miata is better at providing a focused, visceral experience. The BRZ gives you 80% of that while doing everything else much better.

I don't believe Mazdaspeed Miatias are all that liked by the Miata community. The turbos weren't anything to write home about, nor is the engine itself...

They don't really live up to their potential out of the box. The turbo is small, but doesn't spool quickly due to a restricted intake. The gearing was made even shorter AND the redline was lowered, making first gear useless. The improved suspension is the best thing about the car, but they put it on 17s.

All of these things are fixable, but at some point it's like, just get a vanilla NB and an FMII...

Yup; FM fixes all - even MSMs. They can put their enchilada package that basically fixes the fuel, air, and redline for the MSM - basically turning the MSM in to an FM II/III.

Thanks guys - this actually makes a lot of sense for me. I think I'll just wait for a nice NB/NA and then try the FM route. The nice thing about this option? It lets me keep my FRS and get a Miata. :D
