The chirping is the crickets riding the 1 million unicorns of power as they all fart at once. Thats what 5k-7.5k rpms is.

I began reading this forum BEFORE purchasing my (new) 2015 FRS in early October 2014.

My car now has 21,829 miles on the odo.

It's been to the Stealership twice...for oil and filters only.

>>Any and All quibbles I've thought of about the car have been addressed in posts/threads in this forum.<<

Nothing wrong with my car needing attention, so far, by Scion Dealership.

That's like calling the flappy paddle AT in the FRS the same 'thing' as the flappy paddle AT in a GTR.

VTEC has variable lift profiles, the valve lift is changed along with timing and ignition.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTEC
Toyota's VVT-i does not do this, it's literally in the name 'variable valve timing ignition'. Toyota does have a vtec like system (VVTL-i), but this engine actually uses Subaru's variable valve timing (my mistake for calling out vvti), which also does not alter valve lift like vtec does.

tldr
AVCS =/= VTEC

I just got my '13 FR-S this summer. First thing my dad says when I took it over to their place: What is wrong with it?

He thought I got screwed on the sale with all the chirping.

Has been very hot until recently and the chirping was incessant. The past few days have been a tad cooler and there is without a doubt much less noise. What little there is doesn't have as much volume.

I anticipate that when things get under 70 F it will be less noticeable.

Call it character. My '12 GTI had none. So all the little rough around the edge problems in the FR-S makes me actually enjoy the damn thing.

What was wrong with it? Did it fail and leave you stranded?

I got it replaced because the chirping sound was pretty loud and since I'm still under warranty Toyota took care of it I didn't pay anything for it but unfortunately they sound came back

Chad11491 09-14-2015 11:47 PM

If it makes you feel any better a brand new porsche cayman next to me at a red light chirped just as loud :)
