Even when a pad disintegrates, you get a 2nd chance.

When brake fluid overheats, it boils, and your brakes catastrophically fail.
No 2nd chances...

I repeat what I've said before - don't venture onto a racetrack with stock fluid - the brakes WILL FAIL after 5-6 laps when the fluid boils.

A good fluid which is affordable is Motul 660, available in most motorbike shops at about 40% of the price of Endless RF650.

Trust me when I say this - I've done 16 track days in my 86 and I learnt the hard way.
I also thought I'd just put my toe in the water and see what happens.
Fortunately my brakes failed and I went off where there was nothing to hit.

Agree with FishEagle here, I know a few guys who upgraded their brake pads and still stuffed it up coz they used stock Brake Fluid,

How is the Motul going? And feedback ?

Thanks Fish.
He doesn't do track-days else I would do fluid and pads straight away like you said.

In my personal experience, I would never chance it by doing more then 4 hot laps with any street car with stock brakes if I could help it - did it once without noticing and brakes go spongy quickly after lap 4.

My usual procedure for my BRZ and previously Impreza 2.5RS (both stock brakes and fluid) was to do 2 warmup laps at medium pace, 3 hotlaps, 2 cool down laps (not touching brakes), 3 hot again, followed by 2 cooldown and then pits.

Doing anymore then 3-4 (at most) is asking for trouble, this is obviously very track and driving style dependent too. Contrary to belief, braking later and harder heats the brakes up less then easing onto them for extended periods of time.

I know guys who can bang out amazing laptops on stock brakes without any issues and other who manage to cook big brake kits with average lap times.

In summary, I agree: if you are going to be hitting the track often, pads and fluids FTW and its not expensive.

Motul 660 is good.
I'm on my 2nd Motul flush and I'm happy. Slightly squishy pedal feel when very hot but I'm OK with that.
Not quite as good as Endless RF650, but at 40% of the price it's a bargain.
I'm getting Motul 660 at about R220/500ml from a local motorbike shop.

I completely disagree.
I did about 30 laps at Killarney a week ago and my brakes are still fine so just how much of a lunatic are you on the street? :O
Driving style has a lot to do with brake management. Just as an example, there were two new Fiesta ST's at the track day a week ago, both with the same mods. The (very much) slower of the two drivers came into the pits with smoke pouring from the front brakes. The faster driver did the same amount of laps with no issues.

Will definitely upgrade my fluid before the next track day though.

You're so right. I found that as I got more seat time, I was braking earlier and smoother with less stress on the brakes and more focus on getting the lines and entry speeds right.

I love how a turbo install turns out to be a brake kit upgrade discussion :laughabove:

Thats another story for another day, lol, I did think about the fact that it could be because my missus uses the car 95% of the time and she doesnt drive it on the limit, so maybe the brakes just got hot and burnt off some deposits that built up over time, because I didnt get fade, they where working fine but just smelt a bit toasty

That said, the performance or "grab" of the brakes do not inspire confidence I have to brake much earlier and even activate the ABS sometimes ( but thats more of a tire issue), and then again Im comparing it to my MR2....

It's more of a safety issue @Freedom more power=more speed=longer stopping distances.
We all want to see the power results obviously, but not be seeing how far the guy manages to move the tree that he's going to hit :bonk:

Turbo install completed yesterday, this evening the BOV and catch can go on!

http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/imag...12G0QB0TCT.jpg

The AVO kit comes with a really great step by step installation guide (with pictures!) so most of the steps are covered - AVO really outdid themselves in this regards, however I have picked up some nice pointers during the install should anyone else attempt the same thing themselves - if so, give me a shout!

Tonight is hopefully the night where an AVO turbo kit spins up for the first time in SA! :confused0068::w00t: (so dramatic lol)
I'll make sure to get it on video.

Should try taking the final install pictures, under car and engine bay.

Can't wait to see the results after tune.

Great job Dammod

For scientific and demonstration purposes please post a video of your clients car doing ridiculous slides and burnouts. Purely to satisfy everyone's desire to see the kit in action :D
