I still like them. Not calling a crack head if somebody breaks into my house. |

In my case, I don't trust them not because I think I know more than them, but because they will never take care of the car as I would. Plus it could pass many hands in the dealership before they even see it. |

Maybe things are just so different in some places I can not picture how bad it is. These guys handle thousands of cars a year and if there are too many problems they just don't work there anymore. |

Forgot to mention, I agree with your previous statements, but some cases differ and that's why my post. Quote:
If I understand correctly, you mean before I bought it and took delivery right? If so, don't know up there but here dealers and service departments are two completely different businesses. Also, I have the option of not buying or backing off a contract if by the time they give me the key the car is not in "brand new" condition. But if the service department where to damage anything in the car, I have no option, I'm stuck with the car while working with the service department for them to make it right. I've had cars returned to me with 50 plus miles more in the odometer when it was not necessary to test drive it, missing bolts, stained seats, scratched paint, and other things. Don't trust them. |

IMO, I think dealer techs are the highest qualified, most trained, and I'm not saying that to inflate their egos, but honestly they get all the latest training to stay updated and qualified. Sure some them are ****s/lazy/don't care anymore, and some I'm sure can't read -JK.....but the ones that I've dealt with know WTF they're talking about. And sure some of the really good techs open their own shop and DO know what they're doing - these guys are RARE! My guy, does work for local owners of Ferrari's and Lamborghini's and Lotus's as well as your regular every day vehicles. So in short, find a good dealer with a good service advisor, chances are you'll get a good mechanic as well. That's my finding.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14993 A few months back I witnessed a brand new Camaro SS roll off the dealership lot and the very next day the lugnuts started to come off, they weren't properly torqued. That dealership literally could have killed people due to their negligence. You typically expect when buying a brand new car you don't have to finish putting it together right? Spring rubbers still installed, dead batteries, improperly inflated tires, even a poor detail job can 'ruin' a vehicle before a customer ever opens the door. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...ve-Strut-Pucks http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...826&viewfull=1 You really are lucky, I called three dealerships about a coil pack check engine light and reflashing my ECU (to fix the injector seal detonation issue). One didn't return my call, one just wanted to schedule a 4 hour appointment without discussing details, and the third said it would take at least two trips to fix the coil pack (one to diagnose, order part, return to replace) and they probably wouldn't fix it it if the check engine light wasn't on and they would only reflash if they could replicate the 'problem' on the TSB (which called for an idle dip the symptom). Since I have no idle dip anymore I'm waiting until I'm out of warranty to get a tune, I ordered the coil pack for $120 and replaced it in the evening in about 2 hours. Toyota can suck my engine if it blows up and I have half a mind to not bother and rebuild it myself even if it happens under warranty, if I'm out of warranty you bet your ass they aren't getting a nickel from me. Sorry, touchy subject with me. |

The link below are the reviews from the service department of my dealer. As you can see I am not alone on my thoughts of them. The sales reviews for them are every bit as good. http://www.dealerrater.ca/dealer/Toy...service-40027/ |

I used to work at the dealership that I bought my car from. From what I saw, getting a good tech depends on your luck.
A few of them basically bang out as many cars as they can and sacrifice quality to make money. I usually don't have a problem with the dealership but my experience ruined it all. To add to my cross threaded header, my coolant was half full because the tech didn't run the car to get the bubbles out after doing the block heater. I am just going to grab some 5min epoxy and slap it back on. |

I also read the reviews, a lot of the positive ones go something like this "They changed my oil with a smile!" "I had a light come on and they filled my tires, they also recommended I replace the brake pads because they were worn, they sure saved my bacon 5/5" I also find it eerie how similar the writing style is between reviews. I'm not convinced that the dealerships don't have an employee or two write a couple periodically. |
Touchy subject for sure. Bought brand new 86 with full warranty from Toyota with the hope that this will be my awesome daily driver. All that I needed was the first 1000km service to make sure my car never goes back. I could not believe a dealer could be this useless. It felt like they wanted to break a record for being so crap.
I work in finance but have had exposure to mechanical things since childhood. Every service, every mod I have done myself since I take pride in my work and it is my car. So I am basically self taught. I even installed my SC myself. The horror stories that come out at our meets are just hair-raising, and the dealer has no problem screwing us over here. When I am not sure, I ask, phone a friend, get some help. But the dealer, never again. |
