He actually could have meant ceased, as in ceased firing, thus not turning the crank and such. Yes, i know thats stretching it BUT IT STILL WORKS, :lol:

As far as part number changes go, don't read much into that. Part numbers change all the time. The vast majority of them are for supplier changes. The part number for the engine changing could be a tiny revision or maybe they added production at a different powertrain plant and the new number represents that plants production.

Ya my last employer that made parts for heavy trucks almost had a monopoly and the part numbers were all about 40 years old!

I've just checked it and it is under Euro5. The same holds for the emissions. Nothing changed.

By the way, one more change is the part number of the muffler. A coincidence?

Is this a part number change for Toyota or Subaru? I know if Toyota changes the part number there is a reason (and they'll have a supersede note for the old part number).

I did the check for Subaru. However, the part numbers also changed for Toyota. Following are some examples:

Valve, Intake
old SU003-00196
new SU003-04745

Valve, Exhaust
old SU003-00197
new SU003-04746

Camshaft, Intake, RH
old SU003-00180
new SU003-04741

Camshaft, Exhaust, RH
old SU003-00181
new SU003-04742

Head & Valve Set, Cylinder, RH
old SU003-00103
new SU003-04958

Muffler could be a new part number because the 2015 MY now has the bigger round exhaust tips instead of the small ovalish ones of the years prior

I understand what you say, but this doesn't justify to change the entire muffler. You need to change only the exhaust tips. In fact the tips are a separate part:

If it wasn't the muffler, I could say that it is just a supplier change. But now we have too many coincidences. It is like they are trying to improve the performance of the engine ...


Maybe a preparation for the next release?
