There are many factors at play here, not all of these may be applicable to why your cars are late in delivery, but as an importer, I hope this gives some perspective on the mess we are dealing with:

1. Lunar new year holiday shut down many ports in Asia for a week so there was heavy congestion the weeks before to push material out before the ports closed, and a rush to get back logged shipments out after they re opened.

2. Some ships don't get a full load at one port, so it may start in China to pick up some containers, drop by Korea to pick up some Galaxy Notes, then to Japan to fill up on cars before coming to USA. That means multiple port congestion. Even if the cars don't move on the same ship, you still have a ship in line to be loaded before it heads out.

3. 10:1 rule, Subaru only gets 1 BRZ out for every 10 FRS/86 that go out. I don't know the details of this agreement but if Toyota is slow to move their car due to slow sales, port congestion, etc., it seems logical that the BRZ delivery would slow exponentially.

4. Strikes at US ports have crippled our ability to import. Ships are just parked at port waiting to be unloaded. Strikes combined with a rush from Asia following the lunar new year back log of shipments is just worsening the wait. Products should be at their home port for about a week before being loaded, 3 weeks on the water, then another week at US customs. 5 weeks door to door. I'm quoting 12 weeks to customers and I'm sure there are more checks for cars to confirm correct VIN, emissions, licensing, etc.

In my opinion, I would say don't put money down until you see a car on the lot. If you are willing to wait, great. If you want it now, get a 2014 because there is no difference.

whoa, 10:1? i did not know that. that explains why there is not even a showroom brz at the dealer in town, while next door at the toyota dealership there are four frs's.

I don't understand why you guys in the USA are having so much trouble. I have a friend who put down a deposit on a BRZ in Late February, and the dealer got it to them within 7-10 days. My BRZ was a matter of 3-5 days.

Are these cars in that much more demand in the US?

OP, if you cannot wait then search stocked car at some other dealer. i waited mine for 5 months back in 2012

yeah, other local dealers have blue/black/gray/white in stock, but for some reason i really want red.

I love the front end of the FR-S better than the mustache on the BRZ, but I wouldn't even consider buying a FR-S. The BRZ is a much better bang for the buck. Pure Price kills the FR-S. You can get a BRZ limited for the price a base FR-S. Lot more content in the BRZ limited.

If the dealer is getting cars in 10 days or less, they're pulling the cars from existing local dealer lots. The problem that happened here is that there's nothing in existing stock in the USA for certain color and transmission combos. The OP is looking for a red auto limited, so there's probably none in the local area. Getting it built and shipped form Japan takes awhile...

It's not a demand issue, it's a supply issue.

Yeah, I always wanted a red car, and that's how I got in my current ride.. so I can understand that. The twins look great in red imho.

I've noticed the same thing. Not many red twins out on the lots.
