It's your money, do whatever you want. People are just trying to help you from wasting it.

From what I have read, the best bang for buck is a tune and a header.

For me the best bang for buck is a supercharger with a mild tune.

Does anybody have suggestions for a reasonably priced header? Also, will unequal length (UEL) vs equal length give me some of that boxer rumble? Lastly, I need to keep my cat. Is it normally integrated into the header? I remember seeing that from speed factory and thought that was interesting.
/sorry if this is considered a threadjack.

There are 2 cats, one in the header and one in the front pipe. I assume you want to keep both? You can get aftermarket headers with cats. However they are all going to be the the more expensive ones, I believe the cheapest catted header is around $800, maybe more.

They come in both UEL and EL. From my understanding UEL will give you more of the boxer rumble, EL will give you more pure power.

If you can stand to lose the cat in the header (you'll still have one in the front pipe) the OpenFlash Header is the least expensive I've seen and gets good reviews. It's UEL but again it is catless.

It seems that many modifications cost a fair chunk of change. To change power makes some sense but to change the sound of the intake or exhaust is quite expensive, considering the modest improvements. In order to get real power, short of a turbo, you'd need a header back and a tune. That isn't inexpensive, particularly for those if us who need to keep our emissions under control (hence, no cat deletion). Still, I'm glad the options are there.
