Don't discredit the power of hobbies, especially one that can be as technical as ours.

I agree. People I never would have thought are enthusiasts the same as I.

It might just take OP the life experience of learning the negatives of instant gratification to get past. At least it wouldn't be an expensive mistake compared to another, but that's another discussion.

OP, do what you want, but as others pointed out... things can change. A lot will happen from now until you buy your first car. You might not even want the same car, but that's for you to decide. Not many other sporty cars have a 5x100 pattern. You should save the money towards a down payment if anything.

I was just telling my teenage kids the other day:
"If you work your ass off to save a bunch of money for something you think you want, by the time you have worked that hard, your concept of the value of money will have changed. You will most likely NOT want that thing you worked so hard for by the time you save the money to get it."

Long story short: Keep saving, and reevaluate what you think is important after you have saved the $$.

And dont buy the wheels. Track time will bring a much bigger smile to your face than "bling".

regardless of age, dont buy wheels before the car.

I GUARANTEE your wants/needs/desires will change.

Best case? You don't change your mind and you can get your nice new wheels when you have the car of your dreams.
