I think a cop will stop you, if you get any road debris lodged in your engine compartment it's not going to be cheap to fix. What if it rains? I suppose the idea is not having to lug a second hood home. I'd sooner borrow a truck or strap it to the roof of somebody's Hyundai or KIA instead.

You guys sound like a bunch whiny aunts.
Nothing has ever fallen out of the sky and hit my hood. When it rains there's still water that can splash up into the engine bay. I can't see water coming into contact with the engine causing problems unless you're running some crazy ITB set up |
My guess is there are no laws that prevent someone from going hoodless. It's a bad idea long term because debris will fall into the bay while parked and people might screw with your engine, but I've never had anything happen while driving that would cause any damage.
Bring rope and tape in case you can't get it to fit right away so you can still hold it in place if you need to. |
lack of hood pins is a viable concern for 100 miles on the freeway.

I spent a few days driving my old monte carlo back and forth to work with no hood and no problems with the police. Just be sure to stay far behind traffic to avoid having anything thrown at the expensive bits. Hell it rained one of the days I did that and I just threw some plastics bags over the fuse boxes and coil packs and didnt have any issues lol.

Plus these cars are still pretty new, I'm sure lots of people are curious as to whats under the hood, give em a show lol.
|
Pretty sure that it's illegal to go hoodless. Probably because of pedestrian safety requirements. I remember also hearing that the air scoops/intakes cannot be higher than 4" of the hood surface or something like that.

But either way, it's probably less than a fifty percent chance anything bad will happen. |
Do it. I used to all the time with my S13 (because i'm a ricer and i had to work on it all the time anyway.)
Just dont leave the car too long...One person gave a quick yank to my boost controller at a car meet once. Luckly there were plenty of zip ties holding it to the car. lol |
Do it and take a rolling shot picture!
