I like the suggestion that the 86 might be a throwback trim level. Maybe a "limited edition". The Toyota FR-S 86 Edition. I mean everyone knows how sick the "panda" paint scheme looks on the FT-86. Maybe it's a way for Toyota to bank on that and sell a few FR-S's with a special drift/track package?

for the love of...
toyota knows how to put my balls on a vice grip, let me tell you. |
My guess would be either a special edition or they wanna name it FR-86 and FR-86s for turbo version
|
I donīt give a fcku what they name it. the point is they have to bring it - right now!

What name will they register next week? all I need to do is to grab popcorn or beer.

^ Because, for people who aren't ardent Toyota fanbois, the name "Corolla" means something VERY different from anything sleek, sporty, 2-door, rwd, exciting...
It's not 1985. Nowadays a Corolla is just a small, cheap car with suprising interior room. |
yet the corola sportivo has a 2ZZGE and will whoop alot of other small hatches on the rd.. the levin is still released in australia as well as sportivo.. and its not the best looking car, at least it is better looking than the new wrx or lancer hatch... and change the toyota fanboi to a general car enthusiast.. it makes more sense to drop it under corollas name than celicas name..

Agreed^
The Corolla has moved away from being sporty. The Celica..while it isn't that sporty, still has a better sports image than the Corolla. |

will be dissapointed and surprised i bet $:happyanim: |
I don't know how Toyota could use the 86 badge on this car. Isn't that part of the chassis code for the old Corolla? The FT is a new chassis so it wouldn't make any sense calling it "86" or using "86" would it? It would need a new chassis number. "86" might be a package designation or part of one but that's probably it...

Ooooh! The FR-86 sounds like a nice combination of past history and modern naming methodology. I'm going to change my personal vote to this name. |
