For one thing it is quite a bit thicker. That alone in my opinion would give it a significant advantage at stopping heat transfer from the pipes into the engine bay considering how thin heat coating is.

It's a multi layer heat barrier with an internal air gap. The air gap itself provides a good amount of the insulation. According to the site, Inconel is rated for 3000F.
