My Golf had cloth in the wheel wells. I'm going to call the VW dealer nearby and see if they can get it and I'll cut it to fit. Not sure I want to glue it in, though, as I'd like it to be removable for cleaning.

Are the wells easy to remove? I'll try gluing on some felt to the inside. Any ideas? Lets get this thread going and quite down those rocks.

How about spraying some undercoating/soundproofing stuff in the wheel wells... ??

Note to the younger generation: If you've ever wondered what the old folks meant by the "sound of rain on a tin roof" ...... just sit in your FR-S during a rain storm .... ;)

Yes, and the water froze in the wash bowl in my bedroom during the winter ...... :bs:

That's a good idea. All I really want to do is absorb the sound of things hitting the plastic. Tin and rain is a nice sound.

Surely you've been in the car during a heavy rain? Just the raindrops sound like hail.

Closest I've been to sitting inside of a snare drum. :)

This became very noticeable after I put on my R-S3s. Just leaving the neighborhood resulted in my wheel well getting pelted with gravel and I live in a suburb.

No...some folks just have good tastes! You meant S14, right? :burnrubber:

I have 18x9.5 in the rear with Michelin Pilot Sport 255's and it sounds like rioters are pelting my car with rocks anytime I get even the slightest gravel patch. Very surprised at how sticky the tires are compared to stock.

Be proud, your car is HellaFunctional Never Hard Parked!

I assumed they didn't weigh the car down with sound deadening material.

But is sound deadening material really that heavy? It couldn't add more than like 30 lbs right?

DrDuquette 12-18-2013 10:10 PM

Use a felt not to deaden the sound, but to absorb the rocks hitting the plastic.
