The Hot Rod guys are INFINITELY more car tech savvy than Car and Driver, Road and Track, Automobile, any other mainstream US automag, that's for sure. The "tech" content in those mags is totally lacking in any kind of scientific content, basically a rehash of what the automakers tell them, complete with all marketing-hype-speak. Wish there was as good a hands-on REAL car enthusiast mag for sports car fans. Grassroots Motorsports maybe?

That's ridiculous... You want a fast car with high limits... Buy a fast car..

The twins are very capable and designed to be fun without high HP and
within reasonable limits.. These cars are refreshing and make more sense in the real world than some high HP car designed for 200 mph runs..
And for the price....

Car and Driver needs to find other topics to discuss. Instead of criticizing the twins why don't they talk about the Genesis instead. The author needs to get their head of their ass. This car is just as popular as it was when it first came out. People still ask me what it is. I love that shit.

Car and Driver -

Knock on sub 30k cars.

Recommend readers 60-80K Cayman S and 2015 M4.

I'll buy your BRZ for 2 shoe strings, 1 bubble gum and 3 pieces of butter scotch candy.

Simply said, I disagree with the writers comments. He's entitled to his opinion just as much as we're entitled to ours.

Magazine articles won't change how I feel about my FRS, I still enjoy driving as much today as when I first got it, and I don't think that will change anytime soon!

You realize most of the staff of C&D are former automotive engineers from inside the industry? I'm not sure where you get your info but they don't use any "manufacturers data" for road tested cars. They log all the data themselves.

I see nothing wrong with what they said. Blinded by the handling they couldn't see how average everything else is. Pretty damn accurate if you ask me.

Never said they used "manufacturers data" for road test data. They will take manufacturers hype on whatever features and generally try their best to sell it for them. (not always though, Q50 steer-by-wire they rightly called out as crap)

They are generally cheerleadery shills for the industry, catering to car *consumers* much more so than to enthusiasts. Of course that helps them sell a ton more mags.

They're definitely much more interested in tactile feel of plastics that I'll seldom if ever touch than in genuine underlying car goodness. My impression is that they don't have a lot of hands-on experience tweaking cars, but it may just be that their market is 90% motivated consumers whose primary interest in cars is how they will make others perceive them.

Anyway, I occasionally pick up a copy for a flight, and it always seems more like I've read a big advertisement than anything about the things that excite ME about cars.

Then I'd say their opinion is worth what I paid for it, as in nothing. I knew going in much of the car was "average", but on the whole it's fucking awesome. It seems they are easily blinded by "shiny". Those dolts are probably big fans of the "what do you HATE" thread. If this car had a Lotus badge on it, they'd still be calling it the best cheap car ever, and telling us how awesome the cruder features of the car are, how brilliant and pure the design, focused solely on having fun, like a "real" sports car. Shills, nothing more.

This is a great car for the price. What all the extras go buy a 40k plus sports car. For 25k this car is perfect

agreed. try to buy a brand new car for the same price that is as enjoyable. I couldn't find one. But regardless, i'm very happy with my purchase (of course I am biased because I did get one) but still, being that I haven't had any problems or let downs with this car, I really don't care what any magazine or "expert" says about it.

Not quite

Last year the cheapness and no frills was mentioned plenty in basically all the reviews.

But since the frz was the new Christmas toy that readers were interested in every magazine invested in extra knee pads and mouthwash.

calmtigers 12-07-2013 07:18 PM

I really don't understand what people expect for 25K in a vehicle...
