We've been around this many times on the forum. It comes down to personal preference and where you live and/or drive. Cloud NAV works great for a lot of folks, for others, not so much.

I can say I much prefer dedicated NAV to a smartphone. I use my phone as a phone (hard to believe, I know) and it seems I'm always on a call just as I need the NAV function the most.

But damn HIDS baby. You got LED taillights but Halogen headlights? Come on Scion\Toyota! Oh and $850 for the Bespoke? Get our of here Scion!

We already know you could have added HIDS, since the BRZ comes with a real Navi and HIDS for only $1311 more. But hey, it is what it is....we got short changed.

Actually the BRZ is going to be cheaper than the FR-S, because later in the year or early next, you will be able to use the VIP discount and get the car below invoice. You will never get the FR-S below sticker price because of the Scion Pure Pricing.

We also don't know if the FR-S is going to be lighter or faster than the BRZ because we don't have that information yet. But if it is, then the FR-S is the way to go.....

Any why is there a NAV is all BRZ models? Crazy yo!

i bet i could get a clean professional HID conversion job (done by yours truley) for 300, i bet i could even make them auto leveling with a height adjustment for 450 :P

your going to have all that nice stuff, lol hd radio on a 198 watt system... it wont sound any different than any other system

Chenslee 04-19-2012 01:47 PM

I spent two years at a company that manufactured industrial HID fixtures. HID does not impress me. Halogens don't either.

why? because you like to split hairs.

This is a very educated response that I agree with, but I really appreciate the looks of the FR-S a little more and am willing to look into 86 headlights from Japan. I prefer the more aggressive nose.

I also can fall into the College Graduate rebate, but the FR-S is ineligible to receive the savings as of now. If Toyota updates TFS to allow the FR-S, then great. Regardless of rebate, I am all in on the FR-S and have secured outside financing.

Clearly you can't read. The thread is asking why people are buying the FR-S not why (in your opinion) the BRZ is better.

The Invoice on the BRZ is still higher than the base FRS, so No, the BRZ won't be cheaper.

Why am I buying the FR-S? No dealer BS, It's a better looking car (the BRZ front end looks awful imho), and I'm saving over 1300 for the car (not counting subaru dealer markups).

Also, can we please stop the pissing contest as to who's car this is? It's the same effing car. It's as much Toyota as it is Subaru. Yes... It was built at a Subaru plant, but so are most Camary's in North america, and technically Toyota owns about half of Subaru, so that means half of Subaru's input is Toyota.

The Car contains Subaru parts, that Toyota helped engineer, as well as Toyota's DI technology, and styling. If you love the car for it's look.. guess what that's mostly Toyota's input. If it were designed by Subaru completely it would be heavier, AWD, have a higher center of gravity, and look like a refrigerator box on wheels.

Don't want NAV, could care less about HID and like the front of the FR-S better.

Sport-Tech 04-19-2012 02:03 PM

In Canada the decision will be a no-brainer.

FR-S: $25,990
BRZ Premium: ~$30-32k (based on Subie Canada past practice)

'Nuff said.

Actually Toyota only owns 16.5% of Fuji heavy industry (Subaru) far from 1/2. The direct injection and transmission is from Toyota and that's about it in terms of mechanicals of the car. Design wise both models are 90% the same so I wouldn't say it's more Toyota or Subaru. Heck Ferraris are designed by Pininfarina does that mean all Ferraris are Pininfarina? It's like when Dodge was selling rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse as Eagle Talon. I'd rather buy the Mitsubishi version.

I stand corrected. I thought the number was higher.

Toyota worked with Subaru durring the mechanical design phase despite it being mostly Subaru parts. At one point it WAS an Impreza framework, but since the original mule it's been heavily modified to be lighter and smaller. At what point is it no longer an Impreza part but a "toyobaru" part.

The bottom line is the car was made by BOTH companies, and the car belongs to both as well hence the ability to buy a BRZ or a Ft-86. The whole "who made it" argument is pointless.

I prefer the more aggressive styling over the BRZ. Plus i have a particular hard on for toyota. Also i could care less about the luxury grandpa extra's that come with the BRZ. I have a smart phone for most of the stuff that includes. If i wanted to show off money id buy a BRZ limited, but im young and prefer to flex my e-pen.

If you want to show off money you wouldn't be driving either haha.

That pretty much sums it up for me. Add, don't care about leather to my list, prefer cloth seats.
