I just know which design I'm attracted to more. aside from that a good chunk of the BRZers I've personally spoken with have said they're going to put an FR-S/86 front end on their BRZ. tells you something.

Not to start a "front end" war but the FRS front end is more of an after thought. The "front" vertical blinker design that comes down both sides of the front bumper come right off of the 2013 Camary hybrid. Identical...now that's an after thought. Maybe Toyota thought they would save some money and use this design mold they already had designed for their other models to cut production costs. Just an observation.

I found out this evening there might be a $1000 Military Rebate to be had.

No might, there certainly is. Scion's head of marketing told us that the $1000 college and $1000 military rebates will both be available.

They recently updated their website to show that college and military rebates will still be valid. Previously, college rebate had expired in April. Updated webpage shows college rebates valid starting April 3rd valid through July 9th. There are terms for the college rebate program, however.

It's simple really - FR-S is more youthful/aggressive; BRZ more sedate, laid-back, subtle (except for that dental dam thingy). You'd expect the BRZ to attract a more "mature" buyer, like a Camry V6 driver.

If by youthful and aggressive you mean a hideous interior, then yes, the FR-S is youthful and aggressive.

I actually like the grill better on the FR-S, but the majority of the time, I expect to be in the car rather than outside it, and so the ugly interior (excessive use of red) matters more than the cooler grill.

Whilst sitting in the car, I didn't notice an abundance of red. The red highlights on the seats, for example, were behind me. Much like the exterior of the car, I don't really look at my seats while I'm driving.

But if you don't like it, you don't like it. Buy the BRZ, be happy.

I'm gonna buy me a pair of those TRD Seats and the duckbill spoiler.

Then my license plate will simply be a picture of the Pokemon "slowpoke".

The FR-S vs BRZ debate seems like it will continue on through the end of time, so lets join the fun.

Personally, I like the nose of the FR-S better. I also like the lower starting price better. However I do feel like an extra $1,400 for Nav + HIDs is worth it, not to mention WRB is my favorite color option for either car, and I have no idea why Scion is only offering that lame dark blue on the FR-S.

On the other hand, I would absolutely purchase the TRD Supercharger once it became available, though I am not sure that you can put that onto the BRZ as well? I know they are the same motor but would Subaru really honor your warranty if you've got a TRD Supercharger on your Subaru?

The answer to that question would problem be the deciding factor for me, and of course waiting until financials are in order.

If Toyota sold the gt86 here with all it options there would be no debates like this and the brz wouldn't sell as well.

Being Canadian, I luck out in that regard, no red accents/stitching on the seat up here, makes the interior a bit more mature.

Which ever dealer gives you the better deal is the way to go.

swift996 04-11-2012 01:21 PM

If it were $7k cheaper for a FRS I'd probably consider it. BRZ is a much better product. Fortunately for you FRS-ers, you get all the same performance.

Sport-Tech 04-11-2012 01:27 PM

^OK, if adding HIDs, an unattractive woven seat fabric, a red-stitched parking brake boot, faux-aluminum plastic dash, and nav make a product "much better".

I am 90% sure the answer is no, but has anybody ever asked if they could "special order" a WRC Blue FRS?

If you order your car custom and they already are set up to paint a BRZ that color it seems like it might be possible.

I used to work at a Chevy dealer who worked with a local construction company to get a special yellow color that matched their company's logo. It came from the factory with that color.
