It's all theoretical though, they don't have that much power, the world keeps turning and 90% of the population continues on as if nothing is different.

Edit: although they could use vacation time to keep the paycheck coming in theory, not sure on the details, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

don't all gov't workers have 300 days of vacation each year anyways?

Was informed by my group commander that they have found enough money to keep us 300 day vacation food stamp using Civilians employed through October 7th.

Can I haz food stamps and 300 vacations? I like free shit as much as the other guy.

Move to Europe, those commie bastards.

They call it "the dole"

*But seriously, national healthcare and MANDATORY five weeks vacation in France ain't a bad deal... Plus holidays of course. Downside is try to get something done in August, whole country is basically in power saving mode.

I'm a federal employee but was in limbo all day... Wasn't allowed to work or go home. Supposedly we've been deemed essential, but it's all a bunch of crap.

Btw I wish I got 300 days of a year. I get more like 19 and I don't get food stamps...

Thanks!

I just feel bad for my peers with families and more financial obligations. Luckily I can skate by for a while if need be.

Gaiseric 10-02-2013 12:30 AM

Yea it sucks for those that actually cant work and need to because they have responsibilities.

Its ok though, congress is still getting paid and thats all that matters anyway! :bonk:

Well I had to go to work today, turns out we are not affected by these shennnigans.

frslee 10-02-2013 10:46 AM

I wonder how long this will last. I'm in private sector, so it's not affecting my income.
It's slow time for us... enjoying web surfing and getting paid!! :)

Actually all leave is cancelled for civilian employees. If you're furloughed you can't use leave to make up for the lost pay. However last time this happened in the 90's all those people who sat at home for 21 days ended up getting back pay anyway once the budget finally passed.

Some of us had to sit around all day to find out at the end that we're somehow "exempted" from the shutdown (eventhough our position description says not mission essential WTF) and would be the lucky few who get to come to work for free while our peers get a mini vacation (which more than likely they'll get back paid for).
