So ichi, SP3 is the "near stock" class, right?

Good q... TBH, I'm not 100% sure. iirc SP3 champ Civic Type-R is far from "near stock"

That's why I'm wondering. All those Hondas are either far more hp or highly modified. Last year, GT86 prototype entered the race with production spec. This year, Toyota gave it some modifications, so it has to be more competitive.

Oh, I didn't know they had a 2 liter NA class. I thought it was more like Le Mans series rules with a general GT class.

Toyota has racing teams too.

HID's usually aren't used in race cars because they buy the basic models to modify and also HID's are ever so slightly heavier... not to mention more expensive if they get damaged. There might even be a regulation against them...

not to mention, in the video it shows them with the base models when they are putting the vinyl on. The base stripper model doesnt have HIDs

The 24hrs of Nburg isn't a marquee endurance race, there aren't many fast cars there. This is a similar class to the World Challenge (Acura Sports Car challenge). The rules are probably posted somewhere. Essentially, modified manifolds (typically), suspension, body panels, etc. Usually the stock engine/internals are the same. These cars get killed by the upper classes but they can actually keep similar speed in turns not under throttle.

Well, if you consider FIA GT2 and GT3 Racecars not as "fast cars", then you are right.

Of course the goal of the 86s must be to "survive" and maybe to achieve a class victory.

SP != Stock (SP stands for "Special")
For example the Porsche 911 RSR is in the SP7 class.

They have near Stock classes in the VLN & 24h Race, but they are called "V" - Classes. The 86 could compete in the V3 or SP3. If there is an additional "T" like in SP4T there you find the super- or turbocharged cars.

You remember right.

For V - Classes it must fit into the rules. And last year it didnīt as it was not a real stock car. (You couldnīt buy one, so it is not stock in the reglement)
